Quero vê-los aqui no Hernando Siles – afirmou Bejerano.

O Hernando Siles é o palco da partida desta quinta-feira. O São Paulo precisa apenas empatar para se classificar para as oitavas de final. No jogo de ida, no Pacaembu, os bolivianos venceram por 1 a 0.

Everton fans react to link with Lorenzo Pellegrini

Everton were linked with a move for Lorenzo Pellegrini last month and now a fresh report has lots of supporters on Twitter discussing the prospect of a move.

Indeed, according to a report from Calcio Mercato in March, Everton and Inter Milan are two clubs interested in signing Pellegrini as contract talks between Roma and the player have stalled.

And now a fresh report from Corriere Dello Sport has prompted fresh discussion amongst the Toffees faithful.

The Greatest Bargains in Premier League history – How much did they cost?

World Class score: 95% | Expert score: 80% | Veteran score: 65% | Intermediate score: 45% | Amateur score: 30% | Try Again: 5%

The report claims a release clause of just €30m (£26m) – a fee payable over two years – remains in his contract, and several clubs from Italy, Spain and England are asking the player’s entourage for information regarding the player’s future at the club.

The 23-year-old is a promising talent and has showcased his creativity since arriving at the Stadio Olimpico in 2017.

An attacking-minded midfielder by trade, he already has 10 goals and 23 assists in 95 appearances for the capital outfit, with nine of those assists arriving in Serie A this season.

Given Gylfi Sigurdsson’s uninspiring form so far this season, it’s no surprise that Everton supporters are eager to see a new creative talent move to Merseyside, and it appears plenty would be delighted with a move for Pellegrini.

One fan suggest he’d be a better option than Aaron Ramsey, while another suggested he’d be one of the bargains of the summer.

Here’s how the fans reacted to reports…

Everton star Seamus Coleman proved doubters wrong against Manchester United

This article is part of Football FanCast’s In Numbers series, which takes a statistical look at performances, season-long form and reported transfer targets…

When Everton caretaker manager Duncan Ferguson said last week that he hoped to have defender Seamus Coleman back in contention for the clash against Manchester United on Sunday, it’s fair to say some Toffees fans weren’t impressed and took to Twitter to slam the 31-year-old.

One individual described him as a “tea boy”, while others suggested he should be left on the training ground rather than being involved on a matchday.

The Republic of Ireland international’s game time has been limited in recent months because of injury issues, with his last outing coming in the home defeat by Norwich City last month.

He probably wouldn’t have started at Old Trafford this weekend either had Djibril Sidibe not been ruled out through illness ahead of the short trip east on Sunday, given the Frenchman had provided three assists in his previous five Premier League appearances.

However, with the Monaco loanee absent it meant that Coleman came straight back into the starting XI and captained the Merseyside outfit against Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men, and he certainly didn’t let anyone down on this occasion.

The right-back has been criticised by the Goodison Park faithful this term for some of his performances, but he stepped up to the plate well against an attacker in Marcus Rashford who had caused Manchester City all sorts of problems just a week earlier.

The Irishman, rated at £10.8m by Transfermarkt, made five tackles – more than any of his Everton teammates on the day – as well as one clearance and two interceptions as per WhoScored – only Tom Davies could better him with the latter.

Coleman also blocked one shot and was largely successful with his long-ball distribution which needed to be on point to relieve the pressure on Ferguson’s men – he completed three of the five he attempted.

The 31-year-old may not be able to get up and down the pitch like he once used to for Everton, but this was a clear sign that he can still do a brilliant job – especially defensively – for the club at this level, and he proved those supporters who doubted him last week completely wrong.

Did he play for Everton? Simple question but a lot tougher than you think…

Sidibe was really impressing prior to illness, but on this display he faces an almighty task to oust his teammate from the starting XI now.

For Ferguson or any other potential incoming manager at Goodison, they may well now have a huge selection headache on their hands.

Miguel Almiron slammed by plenty of Newcastle fans

Well, it seems that a number of Newcastle United fans are just starting to lose faith in Miguel Almiron as the attacker continues to struggle.

Many of the supporters hoped that his goal for Paraguay over the international break would inspire the January arrival against Aston Villa on Monday night.

However, it proved to be another disappointing performance from the South American, who only managed one shot before being substituted late on, according to WhoScored.

Almiron has now made 13 Premier League appearances for the Magpies this season without contributing a goal or an assist.

More worryingly, though, Monday’s clash with Villa proved to be the attacker’s 23rd outing for Newcastle, and he has not managed a goal or an assist.

Something surely has to give when it comes to Almiron’s spot in the side.

And it does appear that many of the club’s fans are fast losing patience, as can be seen by the selection of tweets below:

Earlier this month, a number of Newcastle fans insisted that they were very much behind Almiron despite his troubles, but it remains to be seen whether that is still the case.

Steve Bruce unable to play attacking football at Newcastle, says Charlie Nicholas

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Pundit View series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent quotes from journalists, pundits, players and managers…

Charlie Nicholas believes that the visit of Bournemouth is a game Newcastle could win quite easily, particularly given their current form.

What did he say?

Newcastle have performed well in spurts this season but one thing they lack is consistency, having failed to register back-to-back wins in the Premier League.

The Cherries have recorded two away wins so far, more than the Magpies have managed at St James’ Park, so they will be no pushovers, and should be feeling buoyant after ending a goal drought of nearly six hours against Manchester United last week.

Nicholas suggested that Bruce is an attack-minded manager who is doing the best he can with the players at his disposal, but he did point to three players who could provide the key going forward.

Writing in his Premier League predictions for Sky Sports, he said:

“I know Steve Bruce likes to play attacking football, but he cannot do so with this team. Miguel Almiron is like a little whippet who cannot slow down to finish.

“The fans love him as he is energetic, which I do like about him, but the other phases of his play need to come sharpish. Allan Saint-Maximin is skilful and unpredictable, while Jonjo Shelvey is back in the team. If Newcastle win, they are heading towards the top end of the table.”

The former striker also noted the Cherries’ prowess in attack, stating they “can cause any team problems”, which is a worry for the Magpies given Martin Dubravka has had to make 36 saves this year – the joint-third highest amount in the division.

Will counter-attack style work?

Newcastle have struggled at home in the main this term. From their five league games at St James’ Park they have scored just three goals and a lack of ambition and ideas going forward has let them down.

The front-three showed signs of potential in the win over West Ham last week, but they had space to run into and the counter-attack worked in Newcastle’s favour.

At home to Bournemouth it is likely that they won’t get such joy in behind the defence, and that could limit the influence of the wingers, particularly Almiron.

That being said, it is difficult to envisage Bruce moving away from his settled system of five-at-the-back, but with the Cherries’ front-three often prolific, scoring 35 goals between them last season, and Joshua King finding his scoring boots last week, that may be the best option to nullify the visitors’ attack.

If Newcastle manage that, they may only need one goal to win it in order to record their first back-to-back victories this term.

Barcelona’s game against Slavia Prague is more important than it meets the eye

Wednesday night marks Barcelona’s third Champions League clash in the ongoing 2019/20 campaign.

The first two games were filled with mixed success.

Their curtain-raiser against Borussia Dortmund did not really yield an impressive performance from the Catalan giants as they barely got away with a goalless draw at Signal Iduna Park.

That display was definitely a worrying sign for the Blaugrana and despite going down early in the game following that one, this time against Inter Milan at the Camp Nou, they managed to turn things around and tally their first victory of the group stages against the Italian team.

Even though that puts them in a decent position moving forward, it also gives them a clear chance of practically sealing the deal with a similar showing against their Wednesday night opposition, Slavia Prague.

Of course, on paper, it definitely looks like one of the easiest fixtures in the group.

After all, the Czech team can barely go toe to toe with the likes of Borussia Dortmund or the Nerazzurri and even less so with the giant of modern football that is Barcelona.

But regardless of that, this game is definitely starting to look like a banana skin game for the Catalans more than anything else.

They are rising in form, having beaten Eibar on the road just last weekend and overtaking Real Madrid in the La Liga standings in the process. Not only that, but they are unbeaten in their last five games across all competitions, keeping a clean sheet in the last two and scoring a total of 13 goals along the way.

By all accounts, the Barcelona Slavia Prague are hosting on Wednesday seem like an entirely different beast from the Barcelona we were watching at the very beginning of the ongoing campaign.

Watch Lionel Messi and Gareth Bale answer the internet’s weirdest questions in the video below…

Morale should definitely be high at this point and usually, when that happens, performances also tend to get a significant boost.

After all, it’s all in the head, isn’t it?

But this particular game is much more important than initially meets the eye.

And sure, after already dealing with both Borussia Dortmund and Inter Milan, the match against Slavia Prague doesn’t look like the most appetising fixture the group has to offer.

Their upcoming hosts will be acutely aware that they are the favourites to finish at the bottom of this group of death. For that very reason, there is nothing for them to lose tonight.

If Barcelona don’t take this clash seriously, they could regret it quite quickly.

Even though they did beat Inter Milan in their second fixture of the campaign, anything other than a victory in Prague would leave them with just one win after three games to their names; by all accounts, hardly an ideal situation.

And we should also not forget that this is the very same team that nearly sealed a victory over the Nerazzurri at the San Siro in their second Champions League fixture, but a late equaliser salvaged a point for the Italians.

Seeing how Barcelona struggled with Antonio Conte’s men in the first place, an upset in Prague is well within the realms of possibility.

But victory on Wednesday would put Blaugrana into a very promising position in this group.

So much more is on the line here in Prague than initially meets the eye.

Getting the three points and going all-in for them opens the door for smooth sailing for the Catalans.

But it all starts with jumping over the banana skin and playing their cards right.

Let’s see whether they can do that or not.

Real Madrid: Florentino Perez obsessed with signing Kylian Mbappe from PSG

Real Madrid are two points clear at the top of La Liga despite a seemingly slow start but now they’re already planning for the future.

Now, Marca report that Los Blancos are planning a patient bid to bring Kylian Mbappe to the Bernabeu by 2021.

The news comes following an already eye-watering transfer overhaul in the summer in the Spanish capital with the likes of Luka Jovic, Eden Hazard, Ferland Mendy and Eder Militao arriving after a difficult campaign last season.

According to the report, president Florentino Perez has already set his sights on improving the squad further by waiting for Mbappe’s contract to run down in an effort to pay less for him.

This strategy has reportedly worked with other targets before, including Hazard, when Real paid well below the market price for his signature.

The Spanish contenders are not above waiting for the prime opportunity to strike, and it appears they are desperate to land the French sensation with just two and a half years left on his current PSG contract.

Real president Perez is allegedly ‘obsessed’ with bringing the 20-year-old to La Liga after being impressed with his incredible last three seasons at the top level.

Including being one of the youngest players in history to win a World Cup, akin to Pele, and notching an astounding 33 goals and seven assists in just 29 league appearances last season – dragging PSG to the Ligue 1 title, the former Monaco man is widely considered to be one of the best players in the world. Having lost Cristiano Ronaldo in 2018 and Karim Benzema now into his 30s, there could be space for a big name to move to the club in the attacking line in the years to come.

Whether or not this strategy to land him will work is a different story but if the French champions fail to get the youngster to renew, then it may just pay off for Zinedine Zidane’s side.

Manchester City: Pedri turned down Etihad Stadium move in favour of Barcelona

Spanish teenage prodigy Pedri rejected the advances of Manchester City because he wanted to instead sign for Barcelona.

The print edition of Catalan newspaper Mundo Deportivo reported [via Sport Witness] that the 16-year-old Las Palmas attacking midfielder had been courted by the Premier League champions, among other clubs, and had reportedly been scouting him.

However, according to Mundo Deportivo [via Sport Witness], the teenager has instead chosen to join Barcelona in 2020, citing his father’s and grandfather’s links to the club as a factor in his decision.

Manchester City’s apparent interest in Pedri can be traced back several months. In April this year, Canarias7 claimed [via Sport Witness] that the Premier League club had sent scouts to watch the 16-year-old and they had filed a very positive report on him, believing that he would adapt readily to Pep Guardiola’s style of play.

A compilation of the midfielder’s moments in a YouTube video by SportVideosMM indicates that the Spaniard is a player who can escape tight pressure from opponents with a quick turn and close ball control, jink his way past opponents, play pinpoint long-range passes and score from outside the penalty area, as well as winning the ball off the opposition.

Capable of playing on either wing, as an attacking midfielder or as a centre-forward, Pedri has had an impact for Las Palmas in his first campaign with the senior side, scoring three goals in nine La Liga 2 games so far this season, including two since the start of October. [via TransferMarkt]

While the teenager seems to be showing plenty of promise, a move to Manchester City may have been counterproductive given that Guardiola has been slow to use young players in bigger matches.

In City’s first 12 matches this season, only four teenagers have been used, with Phil Foden, Eric Garcia, Taylor Harwood-Bellis and Adrian Bernabe featuring for just 335 minutes between them. [via TransferMarkt]

In 2018/19, Guardiola gave senior game time to eight teenagers in City’s 61-game season, but when Foden’s 1,107 minutes are excluded, the other sub-20s played for a combined total of 1,056 minutes. [via TransferMarkt].

Contrast that with Barcelona, where 16-year-old Ansu Fati has already played for 231 minutes and made six appearances for the first team this season, and it’s understandable why Pedri decided to turn down Manchester City’s advances, as he would likely have found game time very hard to come by at the Etihad Stadium.

Aston Villa fans criticise Jota’s display in West Ham draw

[ad_pod ]

It would be fair to say that the Aston Villa fans were not best pleased with what they saw from Jota in Monday night’s Premier League clash with West Ham United.

The 28-year-old, who moved to Villa Park from Birmingham City during the summer, was handed his third straight league start against West Ham having come off the bench against Tottenham Hotspur and Bournemouth earlier this season.

Jota was once again deployed on the right for Dean Smith’s side, but his statistics for the night do not exactly make brilliant reading.

Indeed, according to WhoScored, the attacker managed just one shot, one dribble and made just 15 passes before being replaced in the 66th minute.

Villa are now languishing just outside the relegation zone in the Premier League table after a tough start to the 2019/20 campaign.
