Leeds fans are loving Marcelo Bielsa’s gesture to a supporter

[ad_pod ]

Marcelo Bielsa can seemingly do no wrong at Leeds. Whether it’s leading his team to the playoffs or guiding them through an initial six-game unbeaten run this term, he’s becoming a bit of a hero at Elland Road.

That’s just been emphasised by a gesture towards one of the Leeds faithful.

One fan posted an image of a letter he received from the 64-year-old which apologised for the fact he couldn’t make his wedding after being invited.

It was a brilliant response from the Argentine who as a result was hailed by certain segments of the fanbase on Twitter.

One supporter said that Bielsa oozed class whilst another explained how they never wanted him to leave the club.

A further individual lauded him as a gentleman for the measures he’d taken to get in contact with the fan in question.

Bielsa has so far done an excellent job at Leeds since being appointed last season. Although they failed to go up, he signed a new deal back in May and now has the Whites sitting in third place in the Championship.

Here’s the best of the reaction.

Leeds must hand another chance to Bailey Peacock-Farrell amid exit talk

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…

According to a tweet from journalist Alan Nixon, Leeds could be in danger of losing Bailey Peacock-Farrell this summer with Burnley eyeing up a move if they lose one of their ‘keepers.

What’s the word?

Leeds have already lost Pontus Jansson whilst they could still be in danger of seeing Kalvin Phillips and Kemar Roofe walk through the exit door if reports are to be believed.

It’s been a relatively tame transfer window for the Whites, welcoming Ben White and Helder Costa to Elland Road but there is again more talk of departures.

Over the weekend, Nixon claimed on Twitter that stopper Peacock-Farrell may also be on his way out.

He reported that Burnley were keeping an eye on him amid Aston Villa’s interest in Tom Heaton.

Leeds should keep hold of him

Back in May, Nixon spawned talk of Kiko Casilla’s potential exit too, claiming he could be on his way back home to Spain.

The Spaniard’s future seems to have been up in the air for a while but if they were to lose him and Peacock-Farrell, it would be especially bad news.

Leeds have reportedly approached Newcastle for Karl Darlow in recent times but despite the 22-year-old’s perhaps questionable displays in 2018/19, conceding 32 goals, he should be kept at the club.

The fact of the matter is that despite Casilla dislodging him midway through the season, arguably Leeds were a better side when Peacock-Farrell was between the sticks.

The 6 foot 4 goalkeeper impressively kept ten clean sheets in 28 games last term. Casilla, on the other hand, kept five clean sheets in 17 matches.

He was involved in 15 wins from the beginning of the campaign until the middle of January but Leeds began to slightly fall away as Casilla won nine matches whilst being involved in four straight games without claiming all three points.

On that evidence, there is evidence to suggest that Peacock-Farrell could become key again.

It’s difficult to tell whether keeping him in the side last season would have made a difference but going into the new campaign, reinstating the youngster could be the vital change Marcelo Bielsa needs.

After all, he was in the side when Leeds were top last term.

Liverpool boss Klopp hints at when Sepp van den Berg could make breakthrough

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…

As quoted by the Liverpool Echo, Jurgen Klopp has hailed new signing Sepp van den Berg as an “outstanding talent” and suggested he could be ready to play sooner rather than later.

What’s the word?

The 17-year-old became the Reds’ first signing of the summer transfer window, as Klopp’s side beat off competition from a host of European football’s top clubs for the centre-back’s signature.

Having seen the Dutchman in training, Klopp delivered an exciting assessment of the teenager, but cautioned that Liverpool’s strength in numbers in central defence could see his playing time limited for now.

The German said: “He’s a wonderful boy and he decided to join us, which is good. It’s a not a long-term project where the boy has to think he has to wait five years to play for us, but it’s not for this moment.

“We don’t struggle in the centre-back position, we have a lot of options. Last year, there was a time when we had just one left plus Fabinho, that should not happen again. If we does, we find the solutions.

“With Sepp, he’s just an outstanding talent. He has to adjust to a proper physical pre-season, which is hard for him so we help him and do the right things for his development.”

A diamond in the making

When you have to fend off competition from the likes of Bayern Munich and Ajax for someone’s signature, then you know the player must be at least half decent. As Dutch centre-backs seem to dominate the headlines in recent weeks and months – namely Liverpool’s own Virgil van Dijk and now Juventus star Matthijs de Ligt – the world will be watching van den Berg’s progress with a keen eye.

As Klopp mentioned, the Reds are well stocked in the defensive department and boast the likes of van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Joel Matip and Dejan Lovren in that centre-back position.

Liverpool’s desire to retain their Champions League crown and finally end their wait for a Premier League title will only add to the lack of playing time van den Berg will receive next season, but Klopp’s assessment of the player certainly bodes well for the Merseyside club’s long-term future.

Wrong one! Spurs fans want Isco to replace Eriksen, not Ceballos

[ad_pod ]

Loads of Tottenham fans have been reacting to the latest update on the future of Christian Eriksen, as Real Madrid will reportedly offer a player-plus-cash deal for the Danish international.

According to The Sun, Real Madrid will offer Tottenham £45m plus midfielder Dani Ceballos for Eriksen this summer.

The Spurs star is expected to depart north London after admitting he wants a new challenge, and despite reports this week that Zinedine Zidane had turned his attentions to Paul Pogba, The Sun claim Eriksen is still on the Frenchman’s shopping list.

Should Spurs sell Kieran Trippier? Check out the for and against in the video below…

Ceballos meanwhile is very highly-rated at just 22 years old, but has struggled to make a lasting impact in the first team at the Bernabeu.

He made 23 La Liga appearances last season, ten of those coming as a substitute, scoring three times, per Whoscored.

Spurs fans are turning their nose up at the youngster though, instead looking to Isco, who has also been linked with an exit after a tumultuous season.

Celtic fans on Twitter have been going in on Jake Hastie after ten in a row comments

Eight in a row has been confirmed, Neil Lennon has been offered the permanent job at Parkhead and now it’s up to the Bhoys to get behind their side and kick on for the final two league titles to make it ten in a row. However, new Rangers signing Jake Hastie has been caught on holiday in Ibiza claiming he’s moving to Ibrox to stop the ten.

As you can probably imagine, this has not gone down well amongst the Hoops. Parkhead will not forget this kind of thing either, so when Rangers next face Celtic in the 2019/20 season, expect Hastie to get a baptism of fire in the Old Firm. The Hoops have also been especially hard on the ex-Motherwell man seeing as he’s previously claimed to be a Celtic fan, leading to the Bhoys calling him every name under the sun.

Back in 2018, there would be very few supporters of either Rangers or Celtic who would have known anything at all about Jake Hastie, yet now he’s being touted as this special young winger who will undoubtedly improve the Bluenoses. That says all you need to know about his rise in the second half of the season, but as far as the Bhoys are concerned there’s little that the 21-year-old can do to stop their dominance in the Scottish domestic scene.

You can read the Bhoys’ thoughts on Hastie’s comments here:

The Bhoys cannot wait to see Hastie on the losing end of an Old Firm after this and will be desperate to ensure he ends his debut season as a Ger trophyless.

Charlton fans surprised by Lee Bowyer decision to release Ben Reeves

[ad_pod ]

Charlton Athletic announced on Thursday that Ben Reeves was among the players not to be offered a new contract by the club, and Addicks fans on Twitter were certainly surprised by Lee Bowyer’s decision.

Former Reds boss Karl Robinson brought the 27-year-old to The Valley back in the summer of 2017 from MK Dons, and he scored 11 goals and provided a further five assists in 68 appearances in all competitions for the south London outfit.

Injuries did affect the former Southampton youngster and he only played a single minute of football from May 2019 onwards, including their winning play-off campaign.

Lionel Messis have been spotted at The Valley, Boundary Park and even in Wales in the video below…

The versatile midfielder has proved to be a handy player for Athletic at times over the course of the previous two campaigns, but it wasn’t enough to convince manager Bowyer that he has a part to play for the side in the Championship and to extend his deal which expires at the end of next month.

Charlton supporters shocked their surprise at the call via social media, with one simply saying “wow” and another saying they were “shocked about Reeves”.

Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…

Emotions rather than tactics will ultimately decide the Champions League final

[ad_pod ]

Tottenham Hotspur will play Liverpool in the Champions League final after an astonishing week of results in Europe.

On the chalkboard

Spurs headed into their clash with Ajax with a 1-0 deficit to overturn but fell 2-0 behind in Amsterdam.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men, though, staged an astonishing comeback to win 3-2 away from home, with Lucas Moura scoring a hat-trick. Mauricio Pochettino cried at the full-time whistle, as did much of his coaching staff.

Liverpool were also 3-0 behind on aggregate against Barcelona but produced another exceptional European night at Anfield, winning 4-0 to dump out Lionel Messi and Co. James Milner, like Pochettino, cried on the full-time whistle; Jurgen Klopp swore in a television interview.

The final, then, will surely be one judged on emotion rather than tactical intuition.

Both managers are exceptional at putting their teams together and creating systems within which their players thrive.

But, at the end of the day, both Pochettino and Klopp are emotional men, they wear their hearts on their sleeves and they are completely unafraid to own their feelings in front of millions.

It is inspiring, really, in an era of toxic masculinity but it will be interesting to see how the final will be decided. Will Pochettino stick with the attacking players who have got the club this far? Will he drop Lucas? Will he restore Harry Kane to the XI if he is fit?

Will Klopp stick with Divock Origi? Will Mohamed Salah be back in the team? Will it be an excellent tactical decision that ultimately swings the final one way or the other?

Or will emotion be the overriding factor?

An all-English thriller

Both Liverpool and Spurs are attacking teams at heart and caution will surely be thrown to the wind; this is a final after all.

Klopp and Pochettino are often beaten with the ‘what has he won’ stick.

And yet their first trophies while managing English clubs could well be the Champions League.

Emotions, then, will surely be running high.

If Spurs win, an 11-year trophy drought will be ended and Spurs will win the competition in its current incarnation for the first time.

If Liverpool win, they will collect their sixth European trophy, outlining their elite credentials to millions around the globe.

Whatever happens, expect the tears to flow.

Look at him now: Jimmy Kebe and Leeds United

Jimmy Kebe is one of those players Leeds United fans will back at and think, ‘oh, yeah, that happened’.

The winger picked up a bit of a following at Reading thanks to his effective brand of kick and run football. With a little bit of skill added, of course.

The Brian McDermott gamble which paid off, Kebe was a real Championship hero. He could have done great things within the perimeters of the second tier – either becoming a Royals legend or cementing himself as a ‘get of out of league card’. You know, the kind of mercenary who gets the job done at the lower levels but cannot be trusted in the top flight.

Unfortunately, Kebe wanted another slice of the cake. And this one did not digest too well. A disastrous move to Premier League side Crystal Palace was where the sugary treat started its journey and a shocking mess back in the Championship with Leeds United was where it ended. Appropriately matching our biological metaphor.

Kebe switched to Elland Road to reunite with former boss Brian McDermott in 2014. “He has fantastic pace, he is a real team player, and he made and scored goals for (Reading) in the Championship and the Premier League,” McDermott told the official club site (via Yorkshire Evening Post). “I’m delighted he’s come on board and I’m really looking forward to working with him again.”

Some things are best left in the past, and Jimmy Kebe is one of them.

The winger debuted in a six-goal drubbing at the hands of rivals Sheffield Wednesday, which pretty much set the tone for the rest of his ‘career’ at the club. In nine appearances for the club, he managed just one a single goal. Quite sad really.

At times he looked like his old spritely self, in the sense that he sprinted up and down the line like a hyperactive dog, but his energy was very, very rarely ever coupled with an end product. Both Kebe and his biggest fan, McDermott, did not last too long in West Yorkshire.

The Malian retired in 2015 to pursue a career in poker, where, apparently, he is not doing badly (as per Poker News).
