Liverpool’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain impressed with Jordan Henderson improvement

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has praised the performances of teammate Jordan Henderson and picked him out as a midfielder he admires.

What did he say?

The former Arsenal player has made a return from injury this summer after more than a year out with a ruptured ACL, and is excited to be back inolved for both club and country.

He is keen to get back to playing in the no.8 role for both teams – the position which saw him thrive at Anfield prior to his injury.

In an interview with The Times’ Henry Winter, he was asked about midfielders he looks up to, and listed Andres Iniesta and Steven Gerrard, as well as his current club captain.

He said: “Hendo [Jordan Henderson] has stepped forward into a more advanced role [at Liverpool] and he’s doing it really well. It has brought a sense of life out of him, a sort of energetic pulse.”

The two could pair up together for England over the international break with games against Bulgaria and Kosovo, and the 26-year-old will certainly hope for the opportunity to play his way back into Gareth Southgate’s plans.

Cementing a legacy

There is no doubting that Henderson has come a long way in the last few years in terms of his character and the leadership qualities he has displayed, but he has also become instrumental for the Reds on the pitch.

Jurgen Klopp now views him as a vital part of his team and to contribute to a side which won the Champions League and gained 97 points in the Premier League suggests he is a special midfielder – perhaps even better than Gerrard.

It says a lot when his fellow teammates look up to him in the way Oxlade-Chamberlain does, and if he continues in a similar vein over the next few seasons he could be remembered for years to come.

The ultimate for fans is to win the Premier League, and if the boy from Sunderland can make that dream a reality he will certainly write his name into the Anfield history books.

Celtic only have themselves to blame if Scott Sinclair leaves

[ad_pod ]

Despite the English transfer window closing, Scott Sinclair still wants to leave Celtic in this window, according to Football Insider.

What’s the story?

Sinclair was left out of the Champions League qualifier with CFR Cluj as Neil Lennon admitted that his future was uncertain. Championship side Derby were linked to the 30-year-old’s signature but he never made his move before the transfer window slammed shut.

Yet, this doesn’t seem to have deterred Sinclair as he still wants to make a Parkhead exit before the end of the month, per the report.

Lennon has previously spoken about wanting to keep the winger at the club, but with the former Aston Villa man’s desire to depart, one of the two will be disappointed when the Scottish window shuts on September 2.

Reason to leave

Sinclair has every right to feel frustrated with the club, as his manager’s opinion on his future has seemingly chopped and changed on a whim.

After Lennon spoke of his desire to keep the Englishman at Celtic Park, he then revealed, speaking after the 1-1 draw in Cluj, that he’d like two more wingers to arrive during this window.

This revelation could leave Sinclair perplexed, with the 30 year-old already down the pecking order this season. Mikey Johnston, Lewis Morgan and James Forrest have played the most minutes of an already bloated crop of wide-men, and Sinclair can’t be blamed for being pessimistic about his chances of regular football, given the gaffer’s comments.

The potential addition of two new wide men would likely force him further down the pecking order. At Sinclair’s age, it’s impossible to know how many more seasons he will have in tip-top shape without injury or fitness issues, so he can’t be blamed for not wanting to sit on the bench all year.

If he does leave, he will walk out the door with 163 appearances, 61 goals and nine trophies etched into his Parkhead legacy, and Lennon and the club only have themselves to blame.

West Ham fans react as Reece Oxford joins Augsburg on a permanent basis

[ad_pod ]

Lots of West Ham fans have taken to Twitter to react after it was announced by the club that Reece Oxford had left to join Augsburg on a permanent basis.

The 20-year-old joins the Bundesliga side for an undisclosed fee and in doing so brings an end to an eight-year stay with the Hammers, in which he made history.

Oxford became the club’s youngest ever first-team player when he made his debut in a Europa League qualifier against Lusitanos of Andorra aged 16 years and 198 days, and then became the club’s second youngest Premier League appearance maker in the 2-0 win over Arsenal on the opening day of the 2015/16 season.

Having spent time on loan with Reading and Borussia Monchengladbach after bursting onto the scene as a teenager, it seems as if Oxford has failed to live up to his huge potential with the Irons – hopefully he can get back on track with Augsburg.

You won’t believe which of Liverpool’s Champions League winning side of 2005 is still playing in the video below…

Let’s see how the West Ham fans on Twitter reacted to the news…

Mixed opinions: Tottenham fans offer their views on Asensio speculation

[ad_pod ]

According to The Sun, Tottenham Hotspur want Marco Asensio from Real Madrid in any potential deal for Christian Eriksen.

Eriksen will see his contract with Spurs expire next summer and the Denmark international has recently been linked with a move to the Bernabeu.

According to The Sun, Tottenham have made it clear that they want Asensio as part of any potential deal involving the former Ajax playmaker.

The Premier League club’s fans have been on social media offering their views on the transfer speculation and it would be fair to say that there are mixed opinions.

Indeed, whilst some like the sound of Asensio arriving at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, others are not so keen, with a number mentioning Los Blancos midfielder Isco as a possible alternative.

Should Spurs sell Kieran Trippier? Check out the for and against in the video below…

Asensio only scored one La Liga goal during a disappointing 2018-19 campaign, but there is no question that the Spaniard is a brilliant talent – backed up by his reported €700m (£626m) valuation.

Celtic: Neil Lennon simply must demand Benkovic return this summer

Celtic fans know full well that they’re going to need to recruit a new central defender this summer. Dedryck Boyata is leaving for Hertha Berlin in the Bundesliga, and the Bhoys could be set to lose Filip Benkovic, although Neil Lennon needs to do everything in his power to re-loan the big Croatian stopper from Leicester City.

According to The Scottish Sun, the player himself hasn’t ruled out of another loan move north of the border. The Foxes new manager Brendan Rodgers has already speculated that he may allow the young centre-half to leave the King Power Stadium again for yet another temporary switch to Celtic Park. Alongside Jozo Simunovic, Benkovic could be class next season and Lennon will know that.

To be honest, the Hoops will be keen to bring in a new defender to plug the hole being left by Boyata for squad rotation purposes, although the first choice pairing for the club next season at Parkhead should be Benkovic and Simunovic and the Bhoys should make it happen. It will be up to Peter Lawwell to make that happen, and Neil Lennon will certainly be putting pressure on him to complete yet another loan.

The £9.9 million-rated centre-back, as per Transfermarkt, has been one of the best in Scotland this season and should he return to the club then the ball will almost certainly be the Parkhead faithful’s court as they aim for what would truly be one of the greatest achievements in football, a quadruple-treble. That’s a long way away, though, and just getting the Benkovic deal sorted first is what needs to be done.

Would you be want to resign Benkovic next season, Celtic fans? Let us know!

No way: West Ham fans tell club to swerve Diame deal

[ad_pod ]According to the Daily Sabah, via Inside Futbol, West Ham United are considering re-signing Newcastle United midfielder Mohamed Diame. The report claims that Fenerbahce lead the race for Diame, but both West Ham and Crystal Palace are in the hunt.Diame turned out for the Hammers between 2012 and 2014 – scoring seven times in 79 appearances – before joining Hull City. The 31-year-old will seemingly be leaving Newcastle on a free transfer this summer following the expiration of his contract. However, it would be fair to say that the West Ham fans do not want their club to make a bid to re-sign the 6 ft ace.Diame has actually made 239 appearances in the Premier League, meaning that he is incredibly experienced at the top level. In this era of ‘big 6’ dominance, has finishing 7th become as good as winning a trophy? The Pl>ymaker FC squad have their say in the video below…The West Ham supporters are just not interested, however, and would be disappointed if a deal was to be agreed.A selection of the Twitter reaction can be seen below:

Nikola Milenkovic would be an amazing signing for Manchester United

Manchester United are in a real spot of bother right now and for all concerned, the season ending will be the best thing. Frankly, the end of the game against Cardiff City this weekend can’t come quick enough after a truly miserable campaign.

Still, despite missing out on Champions League qualification, United (somehow) remain a very attractive club to join and many talented players could be making a move to Old Trafford, given the chance this summer. Money talks, after all.

Clearly, the budget for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer must be a big one for him to make the right impact if not, it will be another season of failing to challenge for titles.

United will do everything in their power to prevent that, as rumours and links have shown. Already they’re linked with some of football’s biggest names this summer but a defender who might go under the radar is Nikola Milenkovic.

Milenkovic, (who is valued at £31.5 million on Transfermarkt) is thought to be of interest to those behind the scenes at the Theatre of Dreams, as per CalcioMercato and it’s easy to see why.

After enjoying a brilliant season with Fiorentina, the Serbian international could be set to get a big move across Europe, with the likes of Man United interested. With 34 appearances, Milenkovic has so far provided eight clean-sheets and three goals when he alters between centre-back and right-back.

That sounds nice, doesn’t it? Someone to plug those gaps at long, long last.

At the age of 21, Milenkovic has already become a well-known name in the game and could be the man to improve United’s defence massively.

It would take a big fee without a doubt but Nikola Milenkovic is a player with enormous potential to grow into a hero for Man United in the long-term.

At a commanding six-foot-five, he is certainly well-built for the challenge of the Premier League and would undoubtedly be a great addition. Make it happen, Ed Woodward.
