Ravi Shastri, the Indian team director, has talked up Suresh Raina’s Test prospects after the batsman scored a glut of limited-over runs in recent months. Raina hasn’t played Test cricket in more than two years, and hasn’t played a first-class game in 2014, but Shastri is impressed by what he has seen of Raina bat.”The more I see him play, he is brilliant to watch,” Shastri said. “It will be my endeavour really to do something that will get him back into the Indian Test match team. He is a class act.”When he is going he is a treat to watch. Even at times when I see him bat at the nets, when the ball hits the bat, just that sound or sense of timing you know it is something different. No entanto, o fato do treinador da Seleção Brasileira não chamá-lo com tanta frequência pode pesar, além de ser atualmente reserva no clube inglês. Além disto, no dia da convocação definitiva, Tite disse que ele “vivia um grande momento, mas havia outros atletas também em bom momento”. Visto como uma opção “a ser observada mais tarde”, tem chances remotas de estar na Copa América.

O meio-campista é considerado um dos homens de confiança de Tite, que gosta da solidez de seu futebol. Em plena atividade no futebol chinês, pode ganhar espaço em especial porque o treinador ganharia mais uma opção para fazer a transição entre o meio e o setor ofensivo.

Longe de estar em sua melhor fase, tem a seu favor as experiências de disputas de Olimpíada e Copa do Mundo, o que pode ajudá-lo a ser um nome que contribua no dia a a dia da Seleção. Entretanto, uma eventual briga pela titularidade promete ser intensa.

Mais um atacante que corre por fora na disputa pela vaga de Neymar na Seleção Brasileira. Foi observado por Tite na convocação para os amistosos contra Argentina e Arábia Saudita e tem a seu favor o fato de ter jogado durante a final da Copa do Rei.

However, with India scheduled to play only three ODIs in South Africa, Kallis will also play in the series against Pakistan, ending a hiatus from the fifty-over format that stretches back to February 2012.Kallis has missed South Africa’s last 29 ODIs including an away series against England last June and home matches against New Zealand and Pakistan in the 2012/13 summer. He opted out of the Champions Trophy in June for personal reasons and did not join the team for a limited-overs tour of Sri Lanka in August and the Pakistan series in the UAE.In his absence, all-rounder Ryan McLaren finally found a regular place in the starting XI. McLaren’s stocks have steadily risen and he was recently named Man of the Series for his performances in the five-match series against Pakistan.Andrew Hudson, the convenor of selectors said: “As well as Ryan McLaren and Wayne Parnell have done as emerging allrounders, it is very welcome news to have Jacques back as our premium all-rounder. There is no substitute for the experience he brings to the game.” However in spite of this statement, there is no indication yet that McLaren will be sacrificed to make room for Kallis.Instead, Twenty20 captain Faf du Plessis has been given the axe after a poor run in ODIs over the last few months. Du Plessis has scored just two fifties in his last 20 ODI innings, one of them against the Netherlands.Being left out has given Du Plessis the time he needed to get married this Saturday, the day before the Pakistan series starts. He was due to return from his honeymoon in time for the third ODI against Pakistan. Despite his own scheduling, the selectors have left him out of both the Pakistan and India series to give him time to find form at franchise level.Du Plessis will need to find runs in the longest format, because the domestic competitions have moved into first-class mode. That may not be a bad thing for the batsman. With the Tests against India looming and du Plessis having last scored a half-century in whites five Tests ago in January, he could use time in the middle ahead of the home summer.For Robin Peterson, the snub could signal a little more. Peterson lost his Test place to Imran Tahir in Dubai last month, was left out of the T20 side against Pakistan and has now been overlooked for the ODI squad. Peterson was ineffective in the Abu Dhabi Test but his exclusion has come more as a result of the rebirth of Imran Tahir than any wrongdoing on his part, as Hudson explained.”We have dropped Robbie Peterson out of the squad as Imran Tahir is in outstanding form and we are unlikely to use more than one specialist spinner in a home series,” Hudson said. “He will be able to gain valuable time in the middle playing in the Sunfoil series.”With Peterson still playing first-class cricket, there’s every chance he will be considered for the Test at home. However at 34 years, if he is passed by for the next few series, he may look back on this as the beginning of the end.Although South Africa lose a fair amount of experience with Peterson out of the side, they are balanced by the return of a fit Graeme Smith. The Test captain missed the last three ODIs against Pakistan after suffering from post-concussion syndrome but has fully recovered and was seen having a net with Russell Domingo in Johannesburg. Smith’s return means South Africa have choice at the top of the order with both Hashim Amla and Quinton de Kock in the squad.They have similar options in the bowling department with five seamers to pick from, including Vernon Philander, who has been retained after making his ODI comeback in Dubai recently.

Barbados offspinner Ashley Nurse has been called up to the West Indies A squad that will tour India later in September, in place of Shane Shillingford. The A tour of India is set to begin on September 15 and will comprise three one-day matches, one T20 and three four-day matches.Nurse had enjoyed a successful debut first-class season for Barbados, finishing third in the wicket-taker’s list with 45 scalps. Shillingford was the overall leader with 71.As the original West Indies A squad had been announced on August 28, and the West Indies tour of India announced subsequently on September 4, the WICB sought to replace Shillingford in the A squad and use Nurse in his place. Shillingford will most likely be in the Test squad for the tour of India, which begins at the end of October.It was also announced that the schedule had been adjusted, with all the matches barring the last four-day game in Hubli being brought forward by a day. Sunrisers Hyderabad were at the top a week ago, but after two away losses they have descended to No. 5. They have a chance to catch the updraught again when they face a strong Mumbai Indians team at their home venue.Most teams this year have thrived in home conditions and Sunrisers are no different – they have won three out of three in Hyderabad on the back of some inspiring spells by their all-round bowling unit even after repeated batting collapses. With the inclusion of Shikhar Dhawan and Darren Sammy, the line-up appears – at least on paper – a bit spunkier. If they can find a way to extend the aggression shown by their bowlers to their batting – and fielding – they can continue springing surprises. The only problem that remains to be solved is their constant juggling of the captaincy.Mumbai Indians’ home record is immaculate, but playing away, they have blown hot and cold. Their batting was dismal in Jaipur and their bowlers appeared listless in Delhi. However, they seem to have bumped into the right formula under the new leadership of Rohit Sharma and have won three consecutive matches, although that has neatly covered up the lack of form of their 40-year-old opener. His half-century against Rajasthan Royals gave Sunrisers a chance to fight and showed his value in the team. For what it’s worth, he is also from West Indies, the players from where have played a number of starring roles this season already.Rohit Sharma is probably the best striker of the ball in India behind MS Dhoni. But he is not the usual murderer of the cricket ball; he takes his time and then makes it up later with hits that are easy to the eye and brutal on the bowler’s psyche. Williams was banned for six months after the investigation but did not play for South Africa again.At the inquiry, Williams testified that he had been offered US$ 15,000 from his captain Cronje to concede more than 50 runs in his 10 overs in the fifth ODI between South Africa and India in Nagpur. The same amount of money had been offered to Herschelle Gibbs to score less than 20 runs. However, while speaking to ESPNcricinfo during the practice match between the South African Invitation XI and the New Zealanders in Paarl two weeks ago, Williams claimed that no such details were discussed. Instead Cronje had joked with Gibbs and him, according to Williams, who said they were later convinced to pad up their stories for the King Commission.In the match in question, Williams injured his shoulder and only bowled 11 balls while Gibbs scored 74, and neither received any money.Williams admitted to being afraid of what might have happened to him and that he thinks there was a lot of pressure to produce a more detailed story to prove Cronje’s guilt. “It was serious then, and after that I thought, alright, life must go on: it can’t stop,” he said. “But at that particular moment there was fear.”When we testified to our lawyers what the story really was, they came up with a threat that we could be prosecuted for doing something like this. So it means we actually lied to our lawyers, who had to tell another story to get to somebody. I believe that was to get to Cronje and whoever was involved in this.”I had never been in a court before. We gave our Senior Counsel the story. We had to come back and testify to the King commission – a different story. I don’t know if we were forced to lie to get to somebody else. I’m still confused today.”When people ask me I will tell them the truth. I’ll say, ‘That’s what I said to my lawyers; what really happened’. Then, to the King commission, a different story. I don’t know why, because we were forced by the prosecution. I didn’t know what the hell was happening, what can happen to me. So I came up with a different story.”The version of the story Williams said is true was never heard by the King Commission, but he did expand on the details of what happened, almost 13 years later. “By the time I was in the shower [the morning of the Nagpur match], I heard Cronje in the room speaking to Herschelle but I don’t know what they are talking about.”When I put my shirt over my head, he [Cronje] said, ‘Hey, let’s throw this game’. I said, ‘Ja, let’s throw this game’. Because now he’s smiling with me and I’m smiling with him – if you’re going to bullshit me I’m going to bullshit you, so fine. There was nothing involved.”At lunchtime, he [Cronje] came to me and said, ‘We scored too many runs’. I looked at him and said, ‘What do you mean?’ He said, ‘Guys, the deal is off’. I said, ‘So what?’ He never spoke to us about money – you’re going to get this and you must go for that.”The lawyers who represented Williams and Gibbs at the King Commission, senior counsel Mike Fitzgerald and attorney Peter Whelan, deny that they had convinced Williams to lie on the stand. “That’s outrageous,” Fitzgerald said. “Why would I give my own client a version that implicates him? If I somehow persuaded him to lie, to whose benefit would that be?” Whelan called the allegations, “fundamental rubbish”.The King Commission secretary John Bacon said it was unlikely the investigations will be reopened unless they received something from Williams in writing.Williams currently works with the Boland Under-19 team, while Gibbs plays in various Twenty20 leagues around the world. He is at present with the Perth Scorchers for the Big Bash League and refused to get involved in the current issue. “I spoke to Herschelle and he wasn’t interested in commenting,” Scorchers media manager Daniel Davini said from Perth yesterday. “He said, ‘I have nothing say about that and I don’t want to have anything to do with that’.”
