Man Utd still chasing De Ligt
Bayern want to sign a replacement first
Preparing to step up their pursuit of Tah
WHAT HAPPENED?
The urgency for Bayern to bolster their defensive line has intensified following an injury to their new signing, Hiroki Ito. The Japanese defender sustained a serious injury, breaking his metatarsal, during a friendly match against 1. FC Duren, and is expected to be sidelined for several weeks. According to this injury might prompt Bayern to expedite their pursuit of Tah to cover the defensive gap left by Ito's absence.

THE BIGGER PICTURE
Despite the pressing need for defensive reinforcements, Bayern's improved offer for Tah — €20 million (£17m/$22m) plus an additional €5 million (£4m/$5.5m) in bonus payments — has not met Bayer's expectations. Sports director, Simon Rolfes, confirmed that no acceptable offer has been received from any club, maintaining a stalemate in the transfer negotiations. Nonetheless, Tah is eager to join Bayern and has already reached a personal agreement with the club.
DID YOU KNOW?
Meanwhile, Bayern and United have also not yet reached an agreement over the transfer fee for De Ligt. United are reluctant to meet Bayern's €50 million (£42m/$54m) asking price, with both clubs reportedly €15 million (£12.6m/$16m) apart in their valuations.
The potential departure of De Ligt has elicited varied responses from Bayern's management and fanbase. Thousands of Bayern supporters have signed a petition urging the club to retain the Dutch defender. This sentiment is echoed by Honorary President Uli Hoeness, who has expressed no opposition to De Ligt staying at the club. The decision-makers have taken note of the developments and have hence stalled his transfer.

WHAT NEXT?
The transfer saga involving De Ligt, Tah, Bayern and United remains a complex and evolving situation. With the injury to Ito and the unresolved negotiations between Bayern and United, the coming weeks will be crucial in determining the outcomes for all parties involved. As it stands, De Ligt is expected to rejoin Bayern training on August 2 after returning from his holidays following the European Championship.
Plans to do away with the franchise system may not come to pass after all
Firdose Moonda25-Jan-2020Cricket South Africa’s (CSA) Members’ Council is likely to go back on their proposal of having a 12-team provincial set-up in place of the six-team franchise system. The decision was mooted during a meeting of the 14 affiliate presidents, who made up the council, in Johannesburg on Friday. The council also plans to appoint a committee to chart the way forward. The decision of the Members’ Council comes 10 days before CSA’s board is due to deliberate on the organisational structure as well as the future of Chris Nenzani, the president, and Beresford Williams, the vice-president. The duo is under pressure to step down following CSA’s recent turmoil, which includes a stand-off with the South African Cricketers’ Association (SACA).SACA has opposed CSA’s plans of restructuring the domestic game because the move is seen as a way to cull expenses after the board projected losses of R654 million over the next four-year cycle. The players’ body claimed it wasn’t consulted over the proposal, which would result in 70 cricketers losing their contracts, by extension their jobs, if the move was formalised. SACA also later launched a case against CSA on this very issue at the Johannesburg High Court. CSA responded to the showcause notice seven months later, in November. All this took place under Thabang Moroe. The board CEO was suspended in December after CSA was mired in further controversy following the resignation of three board members and suspension of six staff members. Major sponsors pulling out of their contracts with CSA also played a part in Moroe’s suspension.Since then, Jacques Faul has taken over as acting CEO. One of the most important items on his agenda is to repair CSA’s relationship with SACA and obtain clarity over the domestic system. To that end, CSA appointed former ICC CEO David Richardson to head a steering committee to make recommendations on the domestic structure. However, SACA refused to engage while the matter remained sub-judice. If the Members’ Council formally withdraws plans to restructure the game, it is likely SACA will withdraw its case and agree to discussions with CSA.It is imperative for talks to be held soon as the contracts of franchise and provincial cricketers will expire in April. If a new system is put in place, that leaves little time to finalise arrangements for the 2020-21 season.

Playing in India the biggest challenge in white-ball cricket – Richardson
Marcus Stoinis is still coming to terms with the regret he feels for the homophobic slur directed at Kane Richardson in the BBL which led to him being fined AUD7500 (USD 5200) earlier this month. The incident happened when the Melbourne Stars faced the Melbourne Renegades on January 4 with Stoinis pleading guilty to the Cricket Australia code of conduct level two charge of using personally abusive language and apologising to Richardson.Ahead of the ODI series in India, Richardson said Stoinis had “looked more angry than I have ever seen” but did not know what had sparked the outburst.Other than a brief line in the statement after the fine was handed out, Stoinis had not spoken about the incident but addressed it after his record-breaking 147 not out against the Sydney Sixers at the MCG on Sunday.”There’s absolutely no excuses,” Stoinis told reporters. “I mean he’s a good mate, and he over the last couple of games we’ve played I think he’s wound me up a few times, [but] it’s absolutely no excuse to use words like that. And that’s what he was trying to do. He was trying to get a reaction out of me and that sort of thing and unfortunately, I took that bait and went too far and that’s not acceptable.”I’ve spoken to Kane but then even more than that, I think it’s not the type of person I am. It’s not who I want to be and I understand it’s out of line. It’s not how I was raised. And I’m not proud of it, but I guess I’ve just gonna cop that on the chin and, and roll with it now. And also, look, hopefully other people learn from my mistake.”And unfortunately, that’s all we can do. I guess you can’t take anything back. You’ve just got to show it by your actions from going forward.”Richardson said it was normal for Stoinis and him to exchange words when playing against each other. The two have played a lot of cricket together for Australia and were both part of Australia’s 2019 World Cup campaign, and have often sparred verbally in domestic cricket. However, Richardson said this was different from what he had experienced in the past.”We always talk, we’re both competitors,” Richardson said in Mumbai. “It was just a bit of harmless banter about what was going on on the field and the way he goes about it. I always want to have a chat to him about that. It was just harmless cricket chat. For some reason, he reacted the way he did. You would have to ask him why; it was really out of character. He looked more angry than I have ever seen him. I’m not sure what he was thinking. The learning has to be that it never happens again.”Richardson said Stoinis had contacted him the following morning and while he was not personally offended, he reiterated the words of Australia coach Justin Langer in saying that it was unacceptable for any player to use those words moving forward, particularly as it was the second such incident this season after Australia Test quick James Pattinson was suspended following a similar code of conduct charge in December.”Yeah, a little WhatsApp the morning after, but not a whole lot of conversation about it,” Richardson said. “He realised he made a mistake. I could just tell by his body language for the rest of his innings that night that he knew he made a mistake. I didn’t need an apology for myself, he didn’t offend me. It’s what he said that offended so many people. It was more just his actions and everyone’s actions, we can’t afford to have that happen again.”
Evin Lewis fell agonisingly short of a hundred, but his immaculate unbeaten 99, which followed Alzarri Joseph’s feisty four-for, helped a dominant West Indies brush Ireland aside in the first ODI in Bridgetown. Batting on 93 with three required for a win, the opener managed to slice one wide of third man for two runs. That left a straightforward equation – a six to win the match as well as get his hundred. Lewis managed to smoke the length ball that followed, but it landed a few metres short of the extra-cover boundary and left him on 99 as West Indies took a 1-0 lead.Lewis’ innings was nearly chanceless. He began solidly, offering a vertical bat as much as possible on a good batting surface that showed glimpses of being slow every now and again. The only chance he offered, a chip against Mark Adair in the ninth over, was put down by Kevin O’Brien lunging low at mid-off. Either side of that ball, Lewis bludgeoned short pitched bowling from the medium-pacer.That early plan to put away horizontal-bat shots was a theme throughout for Lewis, whose other highlights were blistering drives through extra cover, and nonchalant lofts over mid-off against the spinners. Occasionally he brought out the sweep – such as when he brought up his fifty – and, in a short chase, he anchored the innings without compromising on his scoring rate.In his company, all batsmen made starts without building on them. Brandon King struggled in a 71-run partnership as Ireland cramped him for room, Shimron Hetmyer lasted eight balls before top-edging a slog sweep, and Nicholas Pooran played one of the shots of the match – a glorious straight hit that slammed the edge of the roof – before finding backward point with a cut. Roston Chase, West Indies’ new ODI floater, brought calm after a middle-order wobble and took West Indies to within three runs of victory before falling.Shai Hope had begun in similarly pristine fashion to Lewis, but Adair had his revenge after being hit for two fours, hurrying him with a short ball that he sliced high in the midwicket region where William Porterfield took a diving catch running backwards. That wicket was something of an extension of the first innings, when Joseph and Sheldon Cottrell made effective use of a bouncy pitch that was on the slower side.Ireland’s top three pulled and hooked well against the new ball as West Indies kept their lengths on the shorter side. The extra time because of the surface’s slow pace helped in that regard, but as the lacquer progressively went out, horizontal-bat shots became tougher. Paul Stirling was at his flowing best, piercing the off side early on, and got great connection on his pull shot against Joseph in his first over, but he couldn’t keep it down. At midwicket, Pollard took an easy catch.Andy Balbirinie, who had won the toss in his first match as ODI captain, played three pristine shots within minutes of coming in – one a drive through the covers, one watchful pull caressed to fine leg, and a gorgeous hook for six. But Pollard’s gamble with the offspin of Chase inside the Powerplay worked immediately. Balbrinie reached out, first ball of the tenth over, and got a thin edge as the ball held its line. Hope held onto the first of his four catches behind the stumps. The free-flowing nature of the innings stopped there. Debutant allrounder Gareth Delaney, who was picked to open ahead of James McCollum, was next to fall, getting an inside edge trying to pull Joseph’s back-of-a-length delivery after a sustained period of dot balls, and moments after a mix-up had nearly ended Porterfield’s innings at the non-strikers end.In his next over, Joseph pinned Kevin O’Brien deep in the crease trying to flick a full ball, and Cottrell returned shortly after to find Porterfield’s outside edge with a short delivery outside off that he appeared too eager to cut. Ireland were 80 for 5 at that point, and slipped to 88 for 6 when Simi Singh was strangled down leg side.Twenty-three-year-old wicketkeeper Lorcan Tucker, who played ahead of Gary Wilson, then dug in with Mark Adair for just over 13 overs. They weren’t extravagant in putting up the only half-century stand of the innings, but at just over four an over, they didn’t open up the danger of a complete slowdown. But two balls after the drinks break, Adair jumped down the track to a length ball from Hayden Walsh that was delivered from well behind the crease and ended up being beaten in flight completely. Joseph got another one to kick up from the surface in his last over to account for Tucker, and might have had a fifth wicket if Barry McCarthy hadn’t had the option to overturn an lbw decision using DRS.There was one final bit of resistance from the lower order, with McCarthy and Boyd Rankin adding 30 for the last wicket. But they could only stretch the score to 180, which didn’t prove nearly enough as the hosts won with a third of their overs to spare.
Whilst the majority of Rangers' focus is transfixed on one of the most dramatic Scottish Premiership title races of the last 10 years, they look increasingly likely to green-light a sale in the summer transfer window.
Rangers transfer news
The Gers' late 3-3 draw against Old Firm rivals Celtic was as dramatic as it could have been to ensure that the title is still in their hands as we approach the finish line this season. Now, as things stand, Rangers sit one point adrift of Celtic with one game in hand with potentially even more twists and turns to come.

He is set to be a free agent soon.

Whilst the action takes place at Ibrox, however, those in Glasgow have already turned their attention towards Philippe Clement's first summer transfer window in charge. Already, the Gers have been linked with a permanent move for Fabio Silva, who is currently on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers, and a similar deal for Oscar Cortes. Both players have impressed on loan and a permanent move would be more than deserved this summer.
Fabio Silva
Alas, even if Rangers win the Scottish Premiership this season, departures may also be in the headlines, which could include a player who only arrived last summer.
According to journalist Pete O'Rourke of Football Insider, Rangers are ready to sell Sam Lammers at a "huge" loss this summer amid interest from current loan club FC Utrecht. This comes after recent reports indicated that the Scottish giants are ready to accept offers for the forward who only arrived last summer for £3.5m from Atalanta.
Set to suffer a loss, Rangers will more than likely look back on their deal for Lammers as one to forget and perhaps one that will forever sum up the Gers' failure under Michael Beale. Starting fresh ever since with Clement, the former AS Monaco boss is clearly in a ruthless mood.
"Superb" Lammers needs permanent exit
It's a shame that things just haven't worked out for Lammers at Rangers. The 26-year-old arrived with plenty of potential in a move that received high praise from Heerenveen boss Kees van Wonderen, who said:
“What you get from him as a player is first and foremost a superb work ethic. He’s a left-footed striker and is good technically.
"What you get from him as a player is first and foremost a superb work ethic. He’s a left-footed striker and is good technically. He knows how to play an opponent and is a very clever guy. I can see him being a big success in Scotland. Rangers have signed a quality player who can make a big impact.”
That impact never came, however, and Lammers was forced to find his feet on loan at Utrecht instead where he has scored seven goals in 13 appearances. Following a solid loan spell, it remains to be seen just how much Rangers will get for their forward in a sale that seems destined to end in a financial loss for those at Ibrox.
Clement and co will simply be hoping to be too busy with title celebrations to worry about Lammers' likely summer departure.
Atletico Madrid have reportedly issued an ultimatum to Conor Gallagher as he is still open to Chelsea stay despite being banished from the first-team.

Chelsea have agreed a £34m deal with AtleticoGallagher remains open to Stamford Bridge staySpanish side set deadline for midfielderWHAT HAPPENED?
According to the Spanish club have made their intentions clear, urging the young midfielder to make a choice by the end of the weekend. Chelsea's new manager, Enzo Maresca, has indicated that Gallagher will have a squad role in the roster in the next campaign as the Italian's possession-based style is unsuitable for the English midfielder. Nonetheless, the player remains open to extend his stay at west London.

Chelsea had made an initial offer four days before Euro 2024 commenced, which Gallagher declined. The second, identical offer came just this week, preceding Chelsea's agreement with Atletico Madrid, which the player turned down as well. He remains adamant about signing a long-term deal with Chelsea, aligning with the contract lengths of other midfielders at the club and not a two-year deal with the option of a third year.
DID YOU KNOW?
Chelsea are scheduled to meet with him soon, aiming to resolve the ongoing situation. Meanwhile, Atletico had an earlier €30 million (£25.4m/$33m) bid rejected but remain persistent in their pursuit, aware of Tottenham Hotspur's interest as well. A new €40m (£33.9m/$42m) agreement with Chelsea has been reached, although personal terms with Gallagher are still under negotiation.
Chelsea are meanwhile keen to avoid a repeat of past scenarios where players like Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen left on free transfers. The club are determined not to let Gallagher's contract run out next summer and end up losing him for free. The financial package Chelsea offered Gallagher is competitive, matching the salaries of their highest-earning midfielders and comparable to offers from other interested clubs.

As a free agent next summer, Gallagher could receive numerous offers or even earlier in January from other suitors. He is striving for regular playing time, which he knows will be hard to come by as the arrival of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall has intensified the competition for midfield positions. Chelsea want to offload him soon, preferably to a foreign entity, rather than a Premier League rival. Hence Atletico continue to lead the race ahead of Tottenham, who are also monitoring the situation.
A new update has been shared about the future of Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag following the arrival of Sir Jim Ratcliffe at the club.
Ratcliffe runs the rule
Though he only arrived in Manchester in February, the impact Ratcliffe has already made behind the scenes has been phenomenal. The INEOS Chief has made off-the-pitch moves to re-structure the hierarchy of the Premier League giants, with Omar Berrada arriving from Manchester City to take up the CEO role at Old Trafford, while Jason Wilcox is expected to arrive as the club's new technical director after resigning from his role at Southampton last month.
Ratcliffe lines up £36m signing who could speed up Casemiro's Man Utd exit

ByTom Lever Apr 10, 2024
Current Red Devils football director John Murtough announced that he was stepping down earlier in April, and he will be replaced by both Wilcox and hopefully Newcastle's Dan Ashworth, currently on gardening leave as the Magpies and Manchester United discuss compensation.
United have also approached Crystal Palace man Dougie Freedman, though it is unclear just how advanced that move is at present.
It comes ahead of what could be a massive summer at the Theatre of Dreams, with a left-back, central defender, central midfielder, winger and striker all on their shopping list in a bid to improve on a disappointing campaign.
Stick or twist on Ten Hag
With those above the manager now broadly in place, Ratcliffe could turn his attention to the man in the Old Trafford technical area, with a decision expected on Ten Hag's future come this summer. The United boss himself isn't worried about the sack.
“I am sure we are in the right direction and will get where we want to be", he explained. “I don’t have any doubts. I’m just focusing on my job, focusing on this process, in this project. I really love to be here, I’m enjoying it. For me it’s a challenge.”
The bigger challenge for the Dutchman may be explaining why he deserves to keep the job beyond the end of this season, which has once again been a difficult one.
Currently sixth in the Premier League, they are almost certain to be without Champions League football next season, while just one win in their last five games has seen them slip back into the clutches of West Ham United, Newcastle and Chelsea ahead of the final games of the season.
They still stand a chance of lifting silverware, with an FA Cup semi-final against Coventry City before they will meet one of Chelsea and Manchester City in the final of the competition.
As per Give Me Sport, Ten Hag is now preparing for the new season already, with the Dutchman 'edging towards' remaining at the helm, largely for his ability to nurture youth.

They claim that 'he is in line to remain in the hot-seat in the meantime and begin preparing for the 2024/25 campaign even though there is a threat of him eventually being axed'.
This is largely thanks to the progress of starlets such as Willy Kambwala, Kobbie Mainoo and notably Alejandro Garnacho, while Omari Forson has also been used from the substitutes bench. Garnacho in particular has notched up nearly 2000 Premier League minutes this season, more than Casemiro, Harry Maguire and Antony.
Though Ten Hag is proving able to rely on the youth (often more through necessity than choice), he will need to start finding results on the pitch sooner rather than later should he want this to be anything more than a stay of execution.
Tottenham have been told they could make a "steal" of a signing for next season which would be an absolute "no-brainer" for Ange Postecoglou.

Despite already possessing an abundance of quality in the attacking areas, Spurs are believed to be eyeing up new and improved wide options for the 2024/2025 season.

Postecoglou currently has Son Heung-min, Dejan Kulusevski, Brennan Johnson, Bryan Gil, Manor Solomon and Timo Werner in his squad, but reliable journalist Dan Kilpatrick recently claimed Solomon could go if Tottenham end up signing two wingers.
Uncertainty also surrounds the future of Gil at Spurs, meaning Postecoglou could well have more space freed up for the arrivals of some star options. Most recently, the Lilywhites have been named as suitors for Wolves winger Pedro Neto as one option.

The Portuguese, who's registered an impressive tally of league assists under Gary O'Neil, is just one of the big names who Tottenham have their eyes on ahead of the summer window,
"Pedro Neto is somebody on their radar," said journalist Dean Jones to GiveMeSport recently.
"Raphinha has been mentioned as well. Nico Williams, at Athletic Bilbao, is another player that they're continuing to monitor. It will be interesting. Pedro Neto will be a very difficult one to get because of the competition that there will be to actually sign him.
"But Tottenham have signed a couple of players recently, that they've done well to get through the door, and they will believe that anything is possible."
There is also the small matter of Werner, and what the future could hold for Tottenham's in-form winter window signing.
Tottenham forward Timo Werner.
The German has bagged two goals and two assists over some impressive performances since joining on loan from RB Leipzig, and the deal is thought to include a £15 million option to buy him outright in the summer.
Tottenham could make "no-brainer" Werner signing for next year
Speaking to GMS again, reporter Jones has once again commented on Tottenham's transfer plans – and he says Spurs signing Werner would be a "steal".
“It’s hard to see any other decision other than for Werner to remain at Spurs after this season," said Jones.
"His option is £15m, and that’s a steal when you consider the quality and experience he can bring to the squad. If Spurs qualify for the Champions League, they will need a few heads in that team who know what it takes to manage games and situations. Werner has played over 40 games at that level. When you think that Spurs will need to balance out the squad more next season by playing domestically and in Europe and that you can have a player like this for just £15m, it feels like a no-brainer.”
