Tim Bresnan is likely to miss the three-Test series against Sri Lanka after suffering a torn calf muscle. He had already been ruled out of Yorkshire’s County Championship match against Lancashire in Liverpool and a scan revealed the full extent of the injury.It is a recurrence of the problem he picked up during the one-day series in Australia, which forced him to fly home to be fit in time for the World Cup. The latest injury occurred during the Championship game against Hampshire last week where Bresnan was on course to bowl Yorkshire to victory after taking 3 for 18.”A rehabilitation and recovery programme will be established in the coming days following further medical assessment,” said an ECB statement.The Hampshire match was Bresnan’s first Championship outing of the season following a winter where he played a key role in the Ashes success and became England’s senior one-day paceman at the World Cup. He earlier impressed with the bat, making 87 to haul Yorkshire out of trouble in the first-innings and hint at the all-round role he could play for England.Even a fit Bresnan may not have featured in Cardiff, though, because England have plenty of pace options to select from. Stuart Broad, who missed the last three Ashes Tests through injury, is expected to slot back into the side while James Anderson and Chris Tremlett were outstanding against Australia.However, the selectors are likely to want some pace-bowling cover in the squad and that will mean an opportunity for one of the England Lions bowlers to step up. Steven Finn and Ajmal Shahzad will both play against Sri Lanka, while Jade Dernbach and the fit-again Graham Onions are also in the squad.

A três semanas da última rodada do Campeonato Brasileiro antes da Copa do Mundo, o São Paulo já definiu que fará uma intertemporada de dez dias durante o Mundial. E o local escolhido para concentração e treinamento foi o Centro de Formação de Atletas de Cotia, que abriga as categorias de base do clube e passou pelo aval do técnico Diego Aguirre.

– Faremos a intertemporada em Cotia e queremos aproveitar esta estrutura maravilhosa. E aproveitaremos este período não só para trabalhar aqui, mas também para ter contato com as categorias de base do clube – disse o uruguaio, que visitou o local nessa quinta-feira.

– É o lugar perfeito para treinarmos em alto nível. Não tem lugar melhor do que este para realizar isso. Teremos aproximadamente dez dias em Cotia para treinar firme antes de retomar as disputas do Brasileiro e da Sul-Americana. Faremos tudo bem planejado e com o intuito de proporcionar o melhor para os atletas em busca de um time cada vez mais competitivo.

Na Copa Sul-Americana, o São Paulo aguarda o sorteio de 4 de junho para conhecer seu adversário, mas o próximo compromisso será só depois da Copa do Mundo. Mas o time ainda tem sete jogos pelo Brasileiro antes do Mundial, sendo o último diante do Vitória, no Morumbi, em 12 de junho, com o torneio retornando para o Tricolor em 18 de julho, contra o Flamengo, fora de casa.

– No CFA (de Cotia), ficaremos mais unidos e trabalharemos muitas coisas, porque temos uma estrutura completa à disposição. Este período nos fará muito bem e temos que aproveitar esta vantagem. Todos no São Paulo têm que sentir orgulho da grandeza e estrutura do clube. Estas são as vantagens que temos para os jogadores treinarem bem nesta oportunidade – falou Aguirre.

O São Paulo levou apenas oito minutos para demonstrar sua força no Independência. Em rápido contra-ataque puxado pelo lado esquerdo, Everton achou Diego Souza livre de marcação na pequena área e cruzou. O camisa nove se atirou na bola e a mandou para o fundo da rede. Não deu tempo de comemorar
A alegria dos são-paulinos durou muito pouco. Apenas quatro minutos após ter inaugurado o marcador em Minas Gerais, o lateral Norberto deu um belo drible em Reinaldo, entrou na área são-paulina e apenas rolou para Rafael Moura empatar o marcador: 1 a 1.

Que classe!
O confronto entre mineiros e paulistas seguiu em grande ritmo. Com propostas parecidas, os times se lançaram ao ataque e obrigaram os goleiros Jori, do América, e Sidão, do São Paulo, a trabalharem muito. A partida estava equilibrada até Mateus Ferraz derrubar Arboleda na área e o juiz marcar pênalti. Na cobrança, Nenê bateu com muita classe e colocou o Tricolor, de novo, em vantagem no marcador.

Na volta do intervalo, o panorama da partida seguiu o mesmo: as duas equipes procurando o gol adversário. O confronto permaneceu equilibrado até que a estrela de Nenê decidisse brilhar novamente. Em falta na entrada da área, o camisa 7 do São Paulo acertou o ângulo esquerdo de Jori e marcou um golaço.

Mão do treinador
Depois de ser eliminado do Paulistão e da Copa do Brasil, o técnico Diego Aguirre, enfim, vai se consolidando no São Paulo. O time não sabe o que é perder desde o dia 4 de abril, quando foi derrotado para o Atlético-PR na Copa do Brasil. McCullum will lead the team in its Twenty20 campaign, while Redmond will take charge in the one-day and four-day competitions.Otago are confident McCullum will be available for the full HRV Cup campaign, despite him signing with the Brisbane Heat in Australia’s Big Bash League. The BBL will start in mid-December and while the HRV Cup dates are yet to be fixed, it is expected to kick off in late December.”I don’t think it will be an issue,” the Otago coach Vaughn Johnson told the Otago Daily Times. “Brendon has worked out his timetable along with Otago Cricket and his first priority will be towards Otago cricket. But in the last two Test matches we’ve had to dig pretty deep, and it gives me a lot of pride to see guys putting their hands up and delivering when it matters,” he added. “It also fills me with a lot of confidence for the future that we can go on and become a better side.
