قال أحمد مجاهد رئيس اللجنة الثلاثية السابقة لإدارة اتحاد الكرة، إن راتب كارلوس كيروش المدير الفني الأسبق لمنتخب مصر الأول، كان يساوي نصف راتب روي فيتوريا المدرب الحالي.

وأضاف مجاهد في تصريحات تلفزيونية عبر فضائية “أون تايم سبورتس2”: “أكبر الاخطاء التي وقعت خلال الفترة الماضية هي عدم استمرار كارلوس كيروش مع منتخب مصر”.

واستكمل: “كان يجب التمسك به، وكنت أتمنى أن أكمل معه ونستمر حتى نهاية التصفيات، كانت النتائج ستتغير”.

واستطرد: “لم أر في الـ100 عام الماضية مدير فني يعمل لمدة 14 يومًا فقط ويرحل عن المنتخب، اتحاد الكرة لم يحاول مساعدة إيهاب جلال”.

وواصل: “إذا كنت متوليًا زمام الأمور خلال مواجهة السنغال في تصفيات كأس العالم كنا سنقدم أداءً مختلفًا، ولا أظن أننا رفعنا قضية في المحكمة الرياضية بشأن إعادة اللقاء”.

وتابع: “كيروش أحد أفضل الأشياء التي صنعتها عندما كنت رئيسًا للجنة إدارة الاتحاد”.

وأتم: “أنا أهلاوي طوال عمري، وحزنت على طريقة رحيل إيهاب جلال، وأرى أن الكرة المصرية خسرت كيروش، أما أكثر قرار ندمت عليه هو تأخر التعاقد مع مدير فني أجنبي لمنتخب مصر”.

The lowdown

Atletico paid £13.5million to sign Kondogbia from Valencia in the autumn of 2020. The defensive midfielder, who’s also played eight games as a centre-back this season, has just over two years to run on his £107,000-per-week contract.

Gerrard appears to be intent on strengthening the protection for his back four, with Villa also said to be interested in Brighton’s Yves Bissouma and Leeds United’s Kalvin Phillips ahead of the summer transfer window.

The verdict

Would Gerrard have been impressed by what he saw? Well, Kondogbia’s SofaScore rating of 7.2/10 was the third-highest among Atletico’s starting outfielders, bettered only by Stefan Savic (7.7) and Reinildo (7.4).

He won six of the seven ground duels he contested and both of his aerial battles, equating to an overall success rate of 88.9%. He respectably completed 33 of his 42 passes, including three long balls, and also drew three fouls from City.

More encouragingly still, journalist Rik Sharma described him as ‘easily the best player on the pitch’ in an ‘outstanding’ display, and The Athletic’s Dermot Corrigan dubbed him ‘fantastic’.

Gerrard may now be even more determined to land the dominant midfield man, and based on the bullish noises from sources, he could be the club’s first summer signing.

Allrounder Dwayne Bravo, who turned down a one-year central contract offered by the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) last month, has reiterated his commitment to West Indies cricket. Bravo was one of the three players – allrounder Kieron Pollard and captain Chris Gayle were the others – to reject the offer of a contract for the 2010-11 season.”I know my recent decision to not sign the retainer contract has caused discomfort to many in our cricketing fraternity,” Bravo said in a press release. “I have communicated to the WICB my absolute commitment to West Indies cricket. However, I needed some clarity on some items within the contract and unfortunately we could not make that happen in the time frame for signing, even with the extension provided by the WICB.”The contracts require the players to make themselves available for the West Indies team at all times, something the three players – all of whom have forged prominent careers in domestic Twenty20 competitions including the IPL – were reluctant to do.Besides West Indies, Bravo also played for the Mumbai Indians in the IPL (for an undisclosed amount), and he was signed by English county Essex just to play on finals day of the Friends Provident t20 this season. Liverpool are eying a swoop for PSV Eindhoven forward Cody Gakpo in the summer transfer window.

What’s the Word?

That’s according to Dutch media outlet Voetbal, who claim the winger has already spoken with Liverpool regarding a transfer to the Premier League side at the end of the current campaign.

However, the report goes on to state that the likes of Arsenal, Manchester City, and even Bayern Munich are also interested in a move the PSV sensation this summer.

It looks increasingly likely that Gakpo will be leaving the Dutch side and he has no shortage of admirers. The player did recently sign a new contract until 2026 following discussions with manager Ruud van Nistelrooy recently and this could be to secure his club the best possible fee.

Mane 2.0

Liverpool’s recent recruitment has been excellent, with the additions of Luis Diaz and Diego Jota have added extra dimensions to the Reds’ attack and it looks like Klopp is looking to the future.

With Gakpo only being 22, he could well be a fine signing and eventually look to take over from the ageing Sadio Mane.

Indeed, the Dutchman’s attacking output is similar to that of the 30-year-old, having scored a scintillating 18 goals and registered 15 assists over 42 outings in all competitions this season. Although primarily a left-winger, he can play across the forward line.

His performances have gathered a great amount of praise, with the former Netherlands midfielder, Theo Janssen, stating his belief that Gakpo is a talent who “has everything.”

Liverpool could secure his services for £33m which, would be a record fee for PSV.

Indeed, considering the sheer amount of potential the Netherlands international quite clearly possesses, it would not be surprising to see the 22-year-old – if he does indeed secure a move to Anfield this summer – eventually go on to take the place of Mane in the Reds’ starting XI – as it is clear Gakpo is very much a player in the Senegal international’s mould.
