Nottingham Forest: Fans unleash on fixture changes shared by the club

Nottingham Forest shared details of two fixture changes during the festive period on their official Twitter page on Monday.

And, as to be expected, a number of Forest fans were quick to flock to the news as a result.

The Reds have been on the march following Steve Cooper’s appointment, with the new boss averaging two points per game in his seven fixtures in charge.

He’ll soon be overseeing the club in what will be a busy Christmas period, and Forest have now had home games against Huddersfield Town and Barnsley rescheduled.

They were due to host Huddersfield on Wednesday 29th December, however, that game has been moved back 24 hours for live Sky Sports coverage on Thursday 30th December.

The club’s next City Ground fixture against Barnsley, initially scheduled for New Year’s Day, has been put back by 48 hours, with a new 3pm kick-off on Monday 3rd January.

Forest fans react

That has ruined several supporters’ plans, with many venting their frustrations on Twitter, with one labelling the changes as ‘infuriating’.

“What an absolute joke!! Some of us work over Christmas and New Year and i had requested my shifts off to go both and now I’m working them again! This happens so often it’s infuriating”

Western Australia go on recruiting drive

Western Australia have named a host of new recruits, including the former Queensland allrounder Ashley Noffke, in their squad for the 2009-10 season. The Warriors have added heavily to their squad from both interstate and within Western Australia following a disappointing summer in which they finished second-last in all three formats. There was no room for the batsmen Craig Simmons and Clint Heron, the allrounder Matt Johnston, or the fast bowlers Arron Crawford, Paul Davis and Trent Kelly, all of whom have been in and out of the starting line-up recently. The Warriors have opted for experience over youth in their fast-bowling recruitment with Michael Hogan, 28, picked up from Sydney’s grade competition and Brad Knowles, 27, handed a contract after shifting from Victoria.Hogan is a former New South Wales Country representative from Newcastle who was fifth on the wicket tally in Sydney’s club competition last season. Knowles played a handful of one-day games for the Bushrangers four years ago before moving to Western Australia, where he broke into the Warriors side for a couple of appearances late last summer. Also given contracts for 2009-10 were Drew Porter and Luke Towers, who made their state debuts last season, and the South African-born allrounder Justin Coetzee. A prolific run scorer in Perth’s grade competition, Coetzee, 25, is also an impressive bowler whose left-arm fast-medium picked up ten wickets in a warm-up game against the touring Pakistanis in 2004-05.The legspinner Josh Mangan was upgraded to a full contract from the rookie list while the fast bowler Nathan Coulter-Nile went the other way and was placed on a rookie deal having previously had a full contract. Western Australia’s other new rookies include the fast bowlers Jason Behrendorff, who was recruited from the ACT, and Simon Branston.Nick Death, Chris Thompson and Chris Wood were not offered new rookie contracts while the West Indies captain Chris Gayle has been signed specifically for the Twenty20 tournament. The coach Tom Moody said Western Australia were on the right path following a difficult period in 2008-09.”The Retravision Warriors entered a rebuilding phase last summer, having lost five senior players to retirement at the conclusion of the 2007-08 season,” Moody said. “We are very confident that we are on the right track and have the ideal balance of youth and experience in this squad.”Western Australia squad David Bandy, Justin Coetzee, Liam Davis, Brett Dorey, Theo Doropoulos, Ben Edmondson, Aaron Heal, Michael Hogan, Michael Hussey (Cricket Australia contract), Mitchell Johnson (CA), Brad Knowles, Steve Magoffin, Josh Mangan, Shaun Marsh (CA), Ashley Noffke, Marcus North (CA), Luke Pomersbach, Drew Porter, Wes Robinson, Luke Ronchi, Luke Towers, Adam Voges.Rookies Jason Behrendorff, Simon Branston, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Michael Johnson, Mitchell Marsh, Marcus Stoinis.

Juventus looking to sell Ramsey in January

Juventus want to offload reported Everton transfer target Aaron Ramsey in January, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The lowdown

Calciomercato reported last month that a move to Goodison Park looked ‘increasingly likely’ for the 30-year-old, with the Toffees ‘ready to welcome him’. He has played a mere 97 minutes across Juventus’ first 12 Serie A matches, having suffered three minor injuries already this season.

The Welshman has racked up 262 Premier League appearances during his time with Arsenal, netting 40 goals and laying on 51 assists (via Transfermarkt).

The latest

In a tweet, Romano wrote that Juventus are ‘planning to find a solution to sell’ Ramsey at the midway point of the season.

The Wales midfielder is ‘out of the plans’ of Bianconeri coach Max Allegri and finds himself ‘looking for a potential new challenge’.

The verdict

Ramsey issued a reminder of his quality at the European Championship last summer, scoring a crucial goal against Turkey in a group stage win to help Wales progress to the round of 16. His team-mate Joe Allen said that the ‘world-class’ Ramsey had ‘answered the critics in special fashion’ with an ‘incredible’ performance that night.

However, his injury history makes for alarming reading, and even if he agreed to reduce his enormous salary by 50%, it would still mean a commitment of £200,000 per week for Everton.

It’s surely too great a risk overall for an injury-plagued footballer who’s into the latter stages of his career.

Carberry responds to Wright's ton

A round-up of the latest matches in the County Championship as Luke Wright and Michael Carberry trade hundreds while Stewart Walters leads a Surrey recovery

Cricinfo staff16-Jul-2009Division OneMichael Carberry continued his fine form with 112 as Hampshire responded solidly to the Sussex first innings of 441 after Luke Wright had reached three figures at Arundel. Carberry added 107 for the first wicket with Jimmy Adams and reached his hundred from 154 balls before edging one from Ollie Rayner that bounced. Sussex’s total was boosted by Wright’s century – a Championship best – and he added 86 for the eighth wicket with Rayner, who dominating the partnership with his 60. Rayner’s innings was comfortable a career-best and ensured Sussex moved towards maximum batting points. Wright went on the attack to reach his hundred with a six off Imran Tahir after also hitting Dimitri Mascarenhas for a four and two sixes. Tahir eventually finished with 5 for 140.Click here for John Ward’s report from the second day between Nottinghamshire and Durham at Trent BridgeClick here for George Dobell’s report from the second day between Warwickshire and Lancashire at Edgbaston where Ian Bell hit a ton after yesterday’s wash out.Division TwoStewart Walters, the latest Surrey captain, combined with one of the previous leaders, Usman Afzaal, to put their team back in contention against Essex at Guildford. The Surrey innings was unsteady on 66 for 3 when the pair joined forces but by the close had added 153 in 40 overs with Walters on a career-best 86. Ryan ten Doeschate’s unbeaten 159 lifted Essex above 400, but not before the 120-mark for collecting full batting points had passed. The visitors made a strong start with the ball when Michael Brown edged to slip and Mark Ramprakash fell for a rare duck, just his second in 102 first-class innings, as he gloved down the leg side. Jon Batty fought hard for 30 before being undone by some extra bounce from Graham Napier, but Surrey’s middle order brought the match back on more level terms. The rain arrived on cue at Cardiff as play was restricted to 20.1 overs with Kent reaching 52 for 1 in reply to Glamorgan’s 317. Wayne Parnell and Ryan McLaren quickly wrapped up the home side’s first innings, but Kent lost Joe Denly early when James Harris trapped him leg before. The ball was moving in overcast conditions with both Robert Key and Geraint Jones having to battle to survive before rain arrived half an hour before lunch.

Sri Lanka leave out Bandara and Fernando

Legspinner Malinga Bandara and seamers Dilhara Fernando and Isuru Udana have been left out of the side which will be led by Kumar Sangakkara

Sri Lanka have kept their faith in Thilan Samaraweera and Chamara Kapugedera•AFP

Sri Lanka have named a largely expected 15-man squad for next month’s Champions Trophy. Among the changes are the dropping of legspinner Malinga Bandara and seamers Dilhara Fernando and Isuru Udana from the side that played Pakistan earlier this month. There was no place either for Chaminda Vaas, who retired from Tests but wants to play one-dayers till the 2011 World Cup.Sri Lanka’s fast-bowling department will be led by the in-form pair of Nuwan Kulasekara and Thilan Thushara, and supported by the pace of Lasith Malinga, who was erratic during the recent one-dayers against Pakistan, and Dammika Prasad.Sri Lanka’s concern remains the fragility of their lower middle-order, which caved in with little resistance in the final two games against Pakistan. The selectors have, however, kept their faith in the trio of Chamara Kapugedera, Thilan Samaraweera and Thilina Kandamby.Sri Lanka: Kumar Sangakkara (capt), Sanath Jayasuriya, Tillakaratne Dilshan, Upul Tharanga, Mahela Jayawardene, Thilan Samaraweera, Chamara Kapugedera, Angelo Mathews, Muttiah Muralitharan, Ajantha Mendis, Thilan Thushara, Nuwan Kulasekara, Dammika Prasad, Lasith Malinga, Thilina Kandamby

Celtic handed significant boost

Celtic have been handed a significant boost ahead of their upcoming Scottish League Cup semi-final.

What’s the latest?

That’s according to a report by BT Sport, who claim that St. Johnstone look set to be without key attacking duo Glenn Middleton and Stevie May for Saturday’s Premier Sports Cup semi-final against Celtic.

The report goes on to state that May will be sidelined for around six weeks due to a knee injury, while on-loan Rangers winger Middleton suffered a hamstring injury in Scotland U21’s 2-0 loss to Belgium in midweek.

Speaking about the injuries, St. Johnstone manager Callum Davidson said: “Stevie suffered a knee injury in training so he’s going to be out for a while, probably up until Christmas.

“That’s a blow for us because we want good competition for places and he’s someone who either plays with energy or comes off the bench with energy. He’s going to be sorely missed. I’m gutted to lose him because he was just coming into a bit of form.

“Glenn is struggling. I was cursing at the television when I saw him limp off. It’s a slight hamstring injury. He’s been in getting assessed today and hopefully it’s not as bad as first feared, but I think Saturday will come too soon for him, which, again, is a blow.”

Postecoglou will be delighted

Considering just how important both May and Middleton have been to St. Johnstone so far this season, the news that neither player looks set to feature in the League Cup semi-final is sure to have left Ange Postecoglou delighted.

Indeed, over May’s 13 Scottish Premiership appearances this term, the centre-forward has scored two goals, registered one assist and created one big chance for his teammates, as well as taking an average of 1.3 shots and making 0.6 key passes per game.

With Celtic’s defence looking rather depleted with Carl Starfelt a doubt, and Stephen Welsh nursing his own issues, this should come as a huge relief to the Bhoys manager.

Meanwhile, over Middleton’s own 13 league fixtures this season, the on-loan winger has taken an average of 1.2 shots and made 0.6 key passes per game. His absence will certainly make it an easier afternoon for the likes of Anthony Ralston and Josip Juranovic.

As such, the fact that St. Johnstone will be without the duo for Saturday’s fixture will undoubtedly come as a substantial boost for Celtic, who will very much fancy their chances of making the final following their opponents’ injury blow.

Amanhã a gente define – afirmou.
