Leeds trio ruled out of West Ham clash

Leeds United will again be without Robin Koch and Diego Llorente for their Premier League clash with West Ham this weekend.

The Lowdown: Crucial weekend clash

The Whites have made a disappointing start to their season, failing to win any of their opening five league games and losing two of them.

On Saturday afternoon, Marcelo Bielsa’s side welcome the Hammers to Elland Road, as they look to finally get their campaign going.

Leeds have been dogged by injury problems of late, playing a part in their struggles, and they will again be without a number of important figures at the back this weekend.

The Latest: Hay confirms defenders are out

As well as Patrick Bamford missing the 3pm meeting on Saturday, the Whites will also be without Llorente and Koch, who missed the trip to Newcastle.

Taking to Twitter on Thursday, The Athletic‘s Phil Hay delivered a six-word verdict of “Bamford, Koch and Llorente all out”, with Bielsa having to make do with major deficiencies at the back once more.

The Verdict: Crushing blow

This is another big setback for Leeds, with Koch and Llorente’s respective absences meaning Bielsa has a lack of centre-back options at his disposal – Luke Ayling is also a doubt.

Pascal Struijk is still suspended after picking up a red card against Liverpool earlier this month, so Liam Cooper is the only established available player in that position.

It means Ayling will likely start in the centre again if he is fit, with Stuart Dallas showcasing his versatility at right-back. If the former does not pass a late fitness test however, then it could be dire straits, perhaps with Kalvin Phillips slotting back from midfield, which will of course have a knock-on effect further up the pitch.

In other news, a pundit has made a statement regarding Leeds’ interest in one player. Read more here.

Australian Test player Pat Crawford dies

Pat Crawford, the fast bowler who played four Tests for Australia in 1956, has died at the age of 75 after several years of ill health

Cricinfo staff21-Jan-2009Pat Crawford, the fast bowler who played four Tests for Australia in 1956, has died at the age of 75 after several years of ill health. A tall and wiry right-armer, Crawford collected seven Test wickets at the excellent average of 15.28 before his career was cut short by injury. He made his first-class debut for New South Wales at 21 and in his first season topped the Sheffield Shield averages with 25 victims at 12.96. His form earned him a place on the Ashes tour in 1956 and he made his Test debut at Lord’s in the second Test. However, Crawford broke down during his fifth over and did not bowl again in the match. The Australia captain Ian Johnson later described Crawford’s injury in his 1957 book .”Pat Crawford, who looked like making a promising debut, broke down after five very good overs,” Johnson wrote. “Pat possibly over-exerted himself on his big occasion and it was rotten luck when he suddenly pulled up short, his face contorted in a moment of anguish as a leg muscle went, a moment that his skipper felt just as sharply.”He won back his spot for three more Tests on the tour of India later in the same year and bowled impressively in Madras and Bombay, where he was dangerous and economical. But after collecting a Test best 3 for 28 at Brabourne Stadium, Crawford again succumbed to injury during the third Test at Calcutta, where he managed only five overs for the game.It was to be his final Test and within a year his first-class career had ended due to injury, with 110 wickets at 21.02. Crawford went on to play in the Lancashire League.

Faiz then struck twice, and his new-ball partner Nazar Hussain took three wickets to leave Hyderabad reeling at 56 for 5. However, an unbeaten 63 from Lal Kumar, supported by Hanif Malik’s 25 not out, kept Hyderabad’s chances of a win alive.Faisalabad’s first-innings lead was kept to 120 thanks to Jamaluddin’s unbeaten 102, but Peshawar could face the prospect of trying to battle for a draw on the final day after the hosts raced to 220 for 4 in their second innings in Sargodha. Liverpool injury update ahead of Porto

Liverpool have received a huge double injury boost ahead of the Champions League clash with Porto after both Naby Keita and Neco Williams were declared fit enough to fly out with the rest of the first-team squad.

What’s the word?

The pair weren’t part of Jurgen Klopp’s matchday squad over the weekend for the entertaining 3-3 draw with newly-promoted Brentford due to fitness concerns, but the German manager has confirmed they’re both available for this evening’s clash in Portugal.

“A big squad will travel. Twenty-three are with us, and apart from the longer-term injuries, they are all in. No, Thiago, Harvey (Elliott) and the rest available. No new concerns at the moment,” Klopp revealed in Monday’s press conference.

Jurgen Klopp will be buzzing

News that both Keita and Williams are available for selection will surely have Klopp buzzing ahead of a tricky encounter in Group B.

With Thiago and Elliott unavailable, Keita’s absence would have left the former Borussia Dortmund boss light on numbers in the midfield, while concerns over Trent Alexander-Arnold’s absence means Williams could be required to feature from the off at the Estadio do Dragao.

Porto will be tough opponents for the Reds, illustrated by their draw against Atletico Madrid last time out and Klopp was keen to stress that point when facing the press.

“We don’t count on points we don’t have already, it’s a tough group, so we should not waste time to get points,” the enigmatic 54-year-old said. “Atletico v Porto was a tough one, and if someone deserved to win it, it was Porto, so that says a lot. The team we face tomorrow.”

Liverpool have won on their previous two outings in Porto’s backyard and their chances of making it three successive victories have significantly increased following the return of Keita and Williams, both of whom could start tonight’s big clash.

Spurs ‘watching’ Pochettino situation

Speaking to Football Insider, Tottenham Hotspur ‘insider’/club source John Wenham has made a managerial claim involving Mauricio Pochettino.

The Lowdown: Pressure on Nuno…

This Sunday could play centre stage to one of the most crucial games of Tottenham’s season already as the pressure grows on new manager Nuno Espirito Santo.

After a brilliant start, even managing to pick up the Premier League Manager of the Month award for August, the 47-year-old is now at the centre of reported unrest behind the scenes.

Tottenham have lost their last three league games in humiliating fashion, conceding three goals to a trio of their London rivals in the space of a few weeks.

Now, Wenham made a managerial claim involving former fan favourite Pochettino.

The Latest: Pochettino claim dropped…

As per the Spurs insider/club source, who regularly breaks news on his social media channel Lilywhite Rose, Tottenham and by extension chairman Daniel Levy ‘are watching’ Pochettino’s situation at Paris-Saint Germain.

“Tottenham are watching the situation at PSG,” Wenham told Football Insider.

“The Messi-Pochettino thing has somewhat quietened down by the looks of things.

“If Pochettino became available, would Tottenham replace Nuno with him?

“I think they would. All you have to do is look at how hard Levy went for him in the summer.

“They were scared off by the financial muscle of PSG. I think that is the only way Tottenham would get rid of Nuno.”

The Verdict: Tall order…

Nuno arguably hasn’t had enough time to change Tottenham’s fortunes and it’s only logical he gets a fair crack at the whip.

If results continue to slump in devastating fashion as they have done, though, Pochettino would come as an amazing appointment if they can prise him away from the French capital – especially considering former keeper Heurelho Gomes called him a ‘football genius’.

However, Spurs tried and failed to bring him back to N17 earlier this year and it could be an even taller order now given the squad Pochettino has to play with at PSG.

As it stands, Levy bringing back the £115,000-per-week boss certainly seems unlikely from our point of view.

O Internacional é o sexto colocado no torneio, tendo somado 24 pontos.
