Everton’s transfer window has hardly been a barnstorming affair but the business Rafa Benitez has concluded has surprisingly paid off.

Demarai Gray is looking like an instant bargain after scoring twice in two games following a mere £1.7m move.

His goals have been vital in the Toffees securing seven points from their opening three matches but they aren’t done in the market just yet.

What’s the word?

Anything can happen in the remaining few days of the transfer window but despite Everton’s restricted finances, they are looking to conclude business.

Richarlison could still depart Goodison while James Rodriguez is looking increasingly likely to leave.

The Colombian is due to return to Porto in a swap deal involving Luis Diaz. That news broke on Friday and on Saturday, Fabrizio Romano posted an exciting update on the progress of the move.

He said: “Everton are confident to complete the agreement with FC Porto to sign Luis Díaz. Talks progressing on a permanent move – James Rodriguez expected to join Porto if salary agreement will be completed. Luis Díaz wants Everton as priority, now waiting for final agreement.”

If Benitez can conclude a deal for the 24-year-old then he will have every right to be delighted. After all, the Toffees require an extra dose of quality in the final third to take them to the next level.

Gray has started his Everton career in scintillating fashion but if Richarlison does head for the exit door, it would leave them in the lurch.

That’s why the acquisition of Diaz is such an exciting one. He starred at the recent Copa America for Colombia, scoring four goals in five outings. He has hit the ground running in the top-flight of Portuguese football this term too.

In fact, he’s arguably been one of the best players in the division. The winger has beaten the goalkeeper on two occasions and claimed an assist in his first four outings.

Those numbers add to the nine goal involvements he managed in Liga NOS last term.

Diaz doesn’t just bring goals and assists to the table, however. He has won an impressive three aerial duels per game this term and has managed 2.3 dribbles per outing.

If we compare those statistics to those at Everton, he stands out considerably. Only Mason Holgate and Dominic Calvert-Lewin have won more aerial battles while no one has been able to replicate his dribbling.

On that evidence, he’d be a wonderful signing for Everton and a deal that surely suits the Toffees more.

They’ll be losing an unhappy ageing player and signing a young vibrant individual with the world at his feet. Benitez should be extremely pleased with Marcel Brands’ work.

Se o sistema defensivo alvinegro tem funcionado com louvor, o mesmo não se pode dizer da produção ofensiva do Botafogo. Seja pelas inúmeras chances de gol desperdiçadas – principalmente nos últimos jogos, contra Flamengo e Santos – ou pela baixa produção dos atacantes neste começo de Brasileirão, o time não balançou as redes nos últimos dois jogos e liga agora o sinal de alerta.

No clássico contra o Flamengo, Roger foi quem teve a chance do jogo, de frente para Muralha, tendo desperdiçado. Diante do Santos, foi a vez de Rodrigo Pimpão, que saiu de frente para Vanderlei e acabou tocando errado. Teriam sido dois 0 a 0, se não fosse a cobrança tardia de Victor Ferraz no Pacaembu.

E as chances perdidas acabam fazendo falta no Brasileirão. Nos cinco primeiros jogos, o Botafogo balançou as redes apenas três vezes, sendo elas nos dois jogos disputados em casa. Para piorar, nenhum destes tentos foi marcado por um atacante do time, com os volantes-meias responsáveis pelos gols feitos.

Contra o Santos, o time se comportou como fora nos últimos jogos: postado de forma firme atrás e explorando as situações de contra-ataque, que acabaram não sendo aproveitadas. Jair Ventura citou a “frustração” pelos gols perdidos.

Sri Lanka clinched the title with a five-wicket win but were penalised for being two overs short of the target.Match referee Jeff Crowe docked 10% of the match fee of each Sri Lankan player, with Mahela Jayawardene, the captain, giving up 20%. Each player is fined 5% for every over short, while the captain is penalised twice the amount. Sri Lanka cannot appeal the fine as the ICC rules state the match referee’s decision.

يرى رونالد كومان، المدير الفني السابق لفريق برشلونة، أن النادي الكتالوني يعيش في الماضي بسبب أسلوب لعبه القديم.

كما شكك كومان في الصفقة المحتملة لتعاقد برشلونة مع النجم البولندي روبرت ليفاندوفسكي من بايرن ميونخ.

وعن ذلك، قال: “ليفاندوفسكي لاعب عظيم، هداف منتظم، ولكن يجب النظر إلى سنه، 35 عامًا؟ لدي شكوك حول دفع 50 أو 60 مليون للاعب بالإضافة إلى راتبه”.

What’s the word?

Ian McGarry, who is one half of ‘The Transfer Window’ podcast alongside The Sunday Times journalist Duncan Castles, has claimed that the 28-year-old’s representatives will try to negotiate a bumper extension to his current £200k-per-week contract after the striker’s move to Manchester City never materialised.

“My information is that Kane’s position now is that his representative, who is his brother Charlie Kane, is hopeful of negotiating an upgrade on Kane’s current contract,” he revealed.

“That would include a release clause, meaning that Kane could leave next summer or indeed in January for a set fee, rather than the haggling which went on during the last few months between City and Tottenham.

“Kane himself still sees his future as playing in a team that will win trophies, something that he has not experienced.”

The right move?

After a long saga throughout the summer transfer window, the England international finally put an end to speculation linking him with an exit to the defending champions.

It seems as if City were never prepared to pay in excess of £150m, having splashed £100m on his international teammate Jack Grealish from Aston Villa earlier in the window, and that has left Kane with relationships to repair.

That should be a fairly easy task considering just how crucial he is to this Lilywhites side. He scored or assisted 54.4% of all their league goals scored last season, and already this campaign, he sits top of the key passes per game charts by some margin, showing he can be a big influence under new manager Nuno Santo.

However, as a prolific goalscorer and a product from the club’s youth academy, Kane has always been a fan favourite and popular figure around the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

This latest development only bodes well for their chances of keeping hold of him for the remainder of his career – and on the other hand, the inclusion of a release clause would mean that chairman Daniel Levy gets his way once again and that’ll be for the benefit of the club rather than the player.

Spurs will get the services of Kane for the foreseeable future and that gives them the very best chance of success, given his influence. Similarly, if City – or another club – come calling again, the north Londoners will get every penny they deserve. It’s a win-win and exactly why the Lilywhites faithful must be elated with this update.

Captain Wasim Jaffer then added 49 for the second wicket with Rahane. Jaffer fell for 29, and at 72 for 2 the match was evenly poised. However, Rahane scored his second century in the tournament, and Muzumdar his second half-century, to help Mumbai wrest the initiative. Rahane finished the day at 151, and needs 22 more to get his career-best first-class score; Muzumdar needs the same number of runs for his 24th first-class ton. Delhi were without left-armer Ashish Nehra, who strained a hamstring during their previous game.
ScorecardGujarat, who were trounced by Mumbai in the second round, began confidently in Ahmedabad, scoring 235 for 1 in 90 overs on the first day. Choosing to bat at the Sardar Patel Stadium, Gujarat made a sluggish but steady start, with their openers putting on 108 in 43.4 overs. Priyank Kirit Panchal was the first to go, dismissed by medium pacer Syed Quadri for 48 – he played 145 deliveries. Nilesh Modi and Niraj Patel ensured Gujarat didn’t lose a wicket for the rest of the day. Modi made an unbeaten 118, with nine fours, and Niraj was gave him company till stumps, not out on 60.

وكتب هود في تدوينة له عبر حسابه الشخصي بموقع التواصل الاجتماعي “تويتر”: “نونو سانتو يفضل أيضًا، الاستغناء عن النجم البرازيلي مارسيلو جروهي، حارس مرمى الاتحاد”.

وأوضح الإعلامي السعودي أن السبب هو رغبة المدرب البرتغالي في التعاقد مع حارس مرمى آخر، قادر على اللعب بقدميه.

وأتم: “سانتو يطمح في ضم حارس مرمى متمكن من بناء الهجمات من الخلف، وكشف الملعب، وغيرها من متطلبات الكرة الحديثة التي ينتهجها عدد من المدربين الكبار في أوروبا مثل الإسباني بيب جوارديولا”.
