Former Rangers star Michael Ball has told Football FanCast that there could be a bidding war this summer for striker Alfredo Morelos.

The forward has scored 11 goals in 25 Scottish Premiership games this season, while also laying on four assists.

Morelos has said that he will be open to considering offers this summer, telling a television station in his native Colombia that he will “analyse” any bids that come in for him at the end of the season.

He has said that he is happy in Scotland, however, but Ball expects there to be a bidding war if offers do land on Rangers’ doorstep.

Morelos has been with the club since 2017 and has scored 93 goals and laid on 42 assists in 179 games in total.

Rangers paid just £1m to sign Morelos from HJK Helsinki and any deal for him to leave would see the club net a tidy profit; he is valued at £10.8m by Transfermarkt.

Speaking exclusively to FFC, he said: “He’s a key player for Rangers and Rangers won’t let him go cheaply.

“If there’s clubs knocking on the door, there could be a bidding war going on. If Rangers can get that money in and improve other areas, it could be a possibility.”

Rangers take on their Old Firm rivals at Ibrox on Sunday and Steven Gerrard should axe Ianis Hagi for the game, as the Romania international has been far from his best in recent weeks.

Although the 22-year-old has enjoyed a solid campaign overall, contributing six goals and nine assists in 29 Premiership appearances, resulting in a 6.93 average WhoScored rating, his recent performances have been nowhere near that level.

Hagi’s last goal for Rangers came in the 3-0 win against St Mirren in early March, and he has failed to contribute a goal or assist in the league since then, whilst he also struggled in the cup defeat against St Johnstone last time out before his 68th-minute withdrawal.

Indeed, as per WhoScored ratings, he hasn’t exceeded a 7/10 since the aforementioned St Mirren clash, even registering a lowly 5.95 in the recent win over Hibernian.

He is also competing with Joe Aribo on the right wing, with the Nigeria international having shown that he is capable of playing there or in central midfield at a high level this season, as his average WhoScored rating of 7.40/10 in the Premiership ranks him as the joint-second best player in Gerrard’s squad so far this campaign.

The former Charlton Athletic man was also instrumental in Rangers’ most recent win against Celtic in the Scottish Cup, as he embarrassed Diego Laxalt down the right-hand side before sending in a dangerous cross for Jonjoe Kenny to turn into his own net, so it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him start out wide again at Ibrox on Sunday.

Hagi, meanwhile, has regularly been left on the bench against the Hoops in the past, making just two appearances against them in his career thus far, in which he has failed to contribute a goal or an assist, so perhaps Gerrard feels that the physicality of the fixture doesn’t suit the former Genk man.

Although the manager dubbed the 22-year-old an “outstanding talent” last season after his starring performance against Braga at Ibrox, it seems as if he doesn’t trust him to be as impressive in Old Firm derbies. Given that Hagi has been pretty poor in recent weeks, Gerrard should axe him from his starting line-up on Sunday.

Crystal Palace and Leeds United appear to be battling it out for Fenerbahce midfielder Ozan Tufan.

And plenty of Palace fans have been reacting to the links on social media.

According to Turkish outlet Fanatik, the Eagles are determined to complete the signing of Tufan after failing to land him in the past.

They claim that Palace are ready to activate the 26-year-old’s €20m (£17.3m) clause in his deal to bring him to Selhurst Park.

However, a report from a different Turkish outlet, Fotomac, claim that Leeds have emerged as a surprise candidate for Tufan and will aim to sign him before the start of the Euros this summer.

Tufan’s Fenerbahce contract still has over two years left to run, so it seems as if any club wanting to land the central midfielder will need to splash the cash.

Palace appear to have been long-term admirers of the Turkey international, who was once likened to Yaya Toure, with Tufan admitting he was close to a Selhurst Park switch back in 2018.

Steven Gerrard could be about to receive a huge boost at Rangers ahead of next season, with Jermain Defoe seemingly close to a new deal at Ibrox.

The 38-year-old’s contract is set to expire at the end of the campaign, and considering that new contracts have already been signed by the likes of James Tavernier, Steven Davis, Allan McGregor and Leon Balogun, it seemed as if the veteran striker’s time at Ibrox might well be coming to an end.

However, Gerrard confirmed recently that the club are in talks with the former Tottenham striker over a new deal with the Scottish champions after he emphasised his class with a well-taken goal in the 4-1 Old Firm derby win last time out.

The Light Blues manager said: “It goes without saying that Jermain Defoe is someone I have the ultimate respect and admiration for.

“He’s been a wonderful player. He’s had a wonderful career. To get him up here in the first place was something I was keen to do, because I knew he would help the group in the way he goes about his business. He’s a top professional.

“We’re in talks with Jermain at the moment about what’s next for Jermain. But we want to be really respectful, we want to give him the time to make his own decisions.”

Since signing for the Bears in 2019 on an initial loan deal from Bournemouth, the former England striker has gone on to make 70 appearances for Rangers, in which he has contributed 31 goals and 10 assists.

Although his game-time has been limited this season, as a result of the summer transfer window signings of Kemar Roofe and Cedric Itten, he has still managed six goals in all competitions and will undoubtedly be a huge presence in the dressing room.

After a win against Livingston last season, Rangers assistant manager Gary McAllister was full of praise for Defoe, saying: “Jermain, since he’s arrived here, we’ve always seen the quality. When he’s got on the pitch and he’s played games, he’s looked very very dangerous.”

Defoe has subsequently confirmed that he wants to stay at Ibrox, so it seems likely that a new deal is on the cards, and it would certainly be a huge boost for Gerrard ahead of next season if he stays, as the veteran marksman still possesses a real threat from the bench.

A um empate do título brasileiro, que pode ser confirmado no jogo contra a Chapecoense, às 17h deste domingo, no Allianz Parque, o Palmeiras recebeu grande incentivo de sua torcida durante o treino deste sábado. Centenas de fanáticos pelo Verdão se reuniram na frente da Academia de Futebol pela manhã e cantaram até a saída do ônibus da equipe.

Foi a segunda vez que os palmeirenses se manifestaram em frente ao centro de treinamento neste Campeonato Brasileiro. A outra foi na véspera do jogo contra o Internacional, disputado também no Allianz Parque e vencido pela equipe por 1 a 0. Naquela ocasião o local ficou tomado, mas não tanto quanto neste sábado, quando todas as faixas da Marquês de São Vicente tiveram de ser fechadas para veículos.

A Mancha Alviverde, torcida uniformizada que organizou o ato, pendurou em um dos muros da Academia de Futebol uma faixa com os dizeres “Fica, Cuca”. Depois de cantar o nome de todos os titulares e de Fernando Prass, eles ainda substituíram o tradicional grito de “olê, olê, olê, olá, Cuca, Cuca” por “olê, olê, olê, olá, fica, Cuca”. O técnico tem contrato somente até dezembro e ainda não definiu se vai permanecer em 2017. Segundo ele, a diretoria também não manifestou ainda a intenção de renovar.

Quando o ônibus saiu, Cuca se juntou a Fernando Prass, Gabriel Jesus e Dudu na parte da frente do veículo para observar mais de perto a festa da torcida. Um pouco antes, o diretor de futebol Alexandre Mattos passou de carro pelo local, com o vidro aberto, e foi muito festejado.
