Aston Villa must avoid selling Ollie Watkins amid Lee Hendrie’s transfer claim that rival clubs could look to sign him.

What’s the story?

Dean Smith’s side signed the £75,000-per-week star last summer from Brentford and he has since been a revelation for Villa, bagging an impressive 14 goals in 33 games across all competitions.

Hendrie has now suggested that, were someone like Jack Grealish to leave, it could spark an exodus from Villa Park, with Watkins one of the players he fears would consider a move away.

The 43-year-old told Football Transfer Tavern: “There’s been a lot of interest for certain players. I think when you look at the bigger picture of it, you know, if someone like Jack Grealish left, I think that’s when it does maybe happen where it might be that Ollie Watkins thinks, ‘well, there’s no ambition here. We’re going to have to move on; we’re going to have to go to a different football club’.

“When they’re playing well, there’s always going to be interest for players. So, yes, there’s elements that you do want to keep your best players because I feel that if Villa are going to go and push on and be a European side and possibly get into the Champions League at some stage, they’re going to have to build around these key players that they’ve got – Ollie Watkins is one of them.

“I still feel there’s more to come from him, but I do worry (about interest from top-six sides).”

Dean Smith would be fuming

Speaking earlier this season, The Athletic’s Gregg Evans waxed lyrical about the kind of transformation Villa have had thanks to Watkins’ arrival.

He said: “I really think he’s making a big difference actually, to Villa, I think that he’s given them a new dimension and his hold up play is great, he creates space for others and that’s helping the midfielders flourish.”

After the 25-year-old helped Villa to a superb 3-0 victory against Crystal Palace in December after being down to ten men, Smith raved: “I said to them at half-time in the dressing room, ‘There’s nobody I could choose out of the Premier League to lead the line with 10 men’ with Ollie Watkins. I thought he was outstanding today and the only thing missing was his goal.

“Listen, the numbers he produces in terms of his high-speed running and sprinting distances is incredible. The lads really appreciate the work he puts in.”

Watkins’ rise to becoming a bona fide Premier League star began with his performances at Brentford, with the Bees’ programme editor Chris Deacon telling The Athletic: “Ollie transformed himself into a physical specimen. We’d call him a machine because it looked like he would set himself into third gear and then cruise along at the front while everyone else was blowing.”

While transfer interest in him would be an indication of just how well the striker has done, Villa would be making an unforgivable mistake by looking to cash in on him and/or just letting him walk.

Smith’s side have improved dramatically since last season thanks to key signings like the 25-year-old, and that they’re still within a shout of European football is a testament to that.

The Villa boss would be absolutely fuming if the club decided to take the money on Watkins when they really should be strengthening the team around him.

If this week has told you anything about Celtic, it’s that a new manager is immediately required in the Parkhead dugout.

They have been knocked out of the Scottish Cup and the way in which the Bhoys drew in midweek was rather alarming.

What’s the word?

John Kennedy may well be on Celtic’s radar to become the permanent manager but fortunately for supporters, Dermot Desmond and the Hoops hierarchy have other names in mind.

Roy Keane has come back into contention over the last few days but Eddie Howe still appears to be at the top of their list.

A number of stumbling points have occurred in Celtic’s pursuit of the 43-year-old but according to one journalist, they are refusing to panic and haven’t been deterred by his actions in the last few weeks.

Speaking on the latest edition of the Celtic Huddle podcast, John McGarry said: “I’m told that both parties are fairly relaxed about the situation in terms of negotiations. Nobody’s stormed off in a huff or anything like that. It’s just taking a long time to get these discussions over structure and personnel over the line.”

A big mistake

Howe has been playing Celtic the fool for a considerable period of time now.

The former Bournemouth manager doesn’t want to return to management until the summer while he’s had a number of unpleasing demands in the backroom department.

One source claims that Howe wants to bring the “kitchen sink” with him to Paradise, something the hierarchy have refused.

One of his biggest demands is that Richard Hughes is made the club’s new director of football instead of Fergal Harkin.

However, what this week has shown is that Celtic can’t afford to wait until the summer. Truth be told, they shouldn’t be relaxed about the situation at all.

This is a monumental few months for the Hoops and if they are to address their patchy playing squad, they need a permanent manager installed at Parkhead as soon as possible.

If they have to wait for Howe that means they won’t be able to crack on properly with their recruitment until the window is actually open.

It’s a huge mistake from Dermot Desmond to wait on the Englishman and they must move onto other targets.

He and Dominic McKay currently have their work cut out but they simply have to start taking the initiative sooner rather than later. Howe isn’t special enough to play them around.

وفي سياق مُتصل، يعود محمود متولي مدافع الفريق إلى القاهرة نهاية الأسبوع الجاري بعد انتهاء برنامجه التأهيلي من إصابة التمزق في العضلة الأمامية.

وأوضح أبو عبلة أن متولي سوف ينتظم في التدريبات الجماعية للفريق بعد عودة الأهلي من السودان.

Caso seja campeão, o Bugre será a primeira equipe do país a conquistar as três primeiras divisões nacionais: faturou a Série A em 1978 e a Série B em 1981.Um feito importante para o clube, já que o rival, a Ponte Preta, figura na elite brasileira, embora nunca tenha ganhado títulos expressivos.

Para chegar à decisão contra o Boa Esporte e estar a um passo da taça, o Guarani precisou de dois “milagres” dentro de campo. O primeiro foi nas quartas de final contra o ASA. Após perder por 3 a 1 em Arapiraca, o Bugre venceu a volta por 3 a 0 e avançou. Nas semifinais, o drama foi maior. O clube alviverde perdeu o primeiro jogo para o ABC, em Natal (RN), por 4 a 0. – Foi a melhor partida da minha vida. Dei assistência, fiz gol de falta… Eu me sinto abençoado por poder ajudar o Guarani a passar de fase e chegar a mais uma final de Campeonato Brasileiro. Poder, mesmo aos 39 anos, jogar bem, ajudar o time e seguir construindo uma história bonita dentro do clube. Tem sido fantástico, o melhor momento da minha carreira– contou o meia, responsável por três gols e uma assistência contra o ABC, em entrevista ao LANCE!.

Após o resultado negativo no primeiro confronto contra o ABC, o clima no clube ficou pesado. Coube a Fumagalli e aos outros líderes do elenco a missão de tranquilizar os mais jovens, treinar forte e mostrar que a virada era possível.

– Depois do jogo, tivemos uma semana muito ruim, todos estavam cabisbaixos. – Entramos concentrados, tivemos atitude na hora do jogo e muita personalidade. No fim, nada foi por acaso. Isso foi resultado de um trabalho diário que já dura quase seis meses – acrescentou o meio-campista.

Alex Santana foi um dos atletas que ganhou confiança com as palavras de Fumagalli. O meia 21 anos entrou no decorrer da partida para marcar o quinto e decisivo gol do Guarani. O detalhe é que foi seu primeiro gol como jogador profissional. Alex contou ao L! como o incetivo do capitão ajudou e disse que chegou a sonhar que balançaria a rede.

– Fico arrepiado só de falar. Na hora, não sabia se chorava, se corria… Depois do jogo em Natal, disse para o Chamusca que tinha sonhado que faria o gol da classificação. Ele riu e respondeu que eu era um grande sonhador (risos). Quando me mandou entrar, Fumagalli me disse para simplesmente acertar na direção do gol e deixar nas mãos do goleiro. E não é que a bola acabou entrando? – disse o jovem meia, que foi só elogios ao capitão bugrino.

– Ele é um exemplo para os mais novos.Vou levar todos os conselhos e tudo o que aprendo com ele para o resto da vida. É um grande profissional, uma pessoa incrível. Um verdadeiro paizão que nos ajuda muito, principalmente nos momentos mais difíceis – disse Alex Santana.

Guarani e Boa Esporte abrem as finais da Série C neste sábado, às 19h15 (de Brasília), no Brinco de Ouro. O jogo de volta será no dia 5 de novembro, em Varginha (MG). Plenty have been calling for Tottenham Hotspur to appoint Marcelo Bielsa as Jose Mourinho’s successor this week…

What’s the word?

The ‘Special One’ was sacked after 17 months at the helm, with former midfielder Ryan Mason taking the reins until the end of the season, when Daniel Levy will look to appoint a permanent replacement.

Several names have been linked with the vacant role, ranging from mooted number one target Julian Naglesmann to Brendan Rodgers and even Athletic Bilbao’s Marcelino, but it is Bielsa’s name which is on the lips of many.

Speaking exclusively to Football FanCast, Dean Windass claimed the Leeds United boss “would be the one on the lips of Daniel Levy” and he’s not the only one thinking this.

Former Spurs midfielder Jamie O’Hara stoked the fire even more when he told talkSPORT: “I think he’d be absolutely brilliant and the fans would love him. If you can try and prise him away form there it’d be unbelievable.”

Meanwhile, according to Tony Cascarino in his column for The Times, Bielsa “could regenerate Tottenham”.

Could ruin Kane

The 65-year-old is a very intriguing option to consider, but there must be a few question marks over whether or not he’s actually the right fit for Levy and Tottenham.

He has exceeded expectations at Elland Road and has delivered a strong maiden season back in the Premier League, especially as he’s largely been deploying what is the bulk of his Championship title-winning squad.

They sit tied on points with Arsenal in 10th place and have won away to Manchester City and Leicester, who occupy two of the top three spots.

Mauricio Pochettino is a huge admirer of his, having played under him at Newell’s Old Boys. “For me, he’s a person I will always admire,” revealed the former Spurs manager. “He’s a genius. A person with charisma and a personality very different from us normal coaches, and that’s what makes him special.”

However, the bulk of this success has come down to the 65-year-old’s philosophy – a relentless press, the mantra of putting the side before self, and working on the method before the result.

This means a lot of work is put into training, such as his ‘murderball’ sessions which Leeds’ top scorer Patrick Bamford recently described as “about ten times harder than a [Premier League] game.”

It’s also claimed that Bielsa’s teams suffer from burnout in the final thirds of the season due to built-up fatigue because his high-intensity system places such serious physical demands on the players.

Ultimately, this may well spell serious trouble for Harry Kane, who suffered another ankle injury this week.

In 2019, BT Sport presenter Gary Lineker expressed his fears over the England skipper in an interview with Goal. He said: “It is always a worry when you get a recurring injury and there is clearly a little weakness in there,” adding: “The more you do it, the more you worry the weakness will become a problem.”

Given Bielsa’s ruthless training sessions, let alone his intense pressing from the front in matches, you’d have to have major concerns over the 27-year-old talisman if the Argentine replaces Mourinho.

Spurs rely heavily on the goalscoring and creative exploits of Kane; he has accounted for 60.7% of their 54 league goals this term through either scoring or setting them up.

There’s one other factor which should put Bielsa down the pecking order, as his Leeds side has often suffered from profligacy. Despite winning the Championship last term, the Whites ranked amongst the five worst teams for goal conversion at just 12.5%.

That hasn’t really risen in the Premier League, with Leeds only converting 8.1% of their 614 shots at goal, as per Transfermarkt. In some games they find the net three, four, even five times, but in others they draw a serious blank despite creating so many chances – Kane could well suffer as a result of that, too.

If Levy listens to the aforementioned calls, then he would risk ruining his superstar striker. As good as Bielsa is, he just isn’t the right man to replace Mourinho in N17.

O Santa Cruz já fala em enxugamento financeiro e com isso algumas peças do atual elenco podem não ser aproveitadas na próxima temporada. Mesmo Neris com contrato indefinido no clube, empresário do zagueiro, Felipe Nogiri, afirma que o jogador está aberto a negociação para a renovação. O contrato do jogador vai até dezembro de 2016.

Em entrevista ao “Superesportes” Felipe Nogiri disse que a prioridade é a renovação com o Santa Cruz. O empresário diz que ainda aguarda uma conversa com a diretoria do clube para definir o futuro do atleta na equipe:

— A gente está esperando a diretoria para ver o que vai fazer, mas a prioridade é o Santa. Pelo respeito, por tudo que fizeram pelo Neris.

Segundo o “Superesportes”, o jogador recebeu algumas propostas de outros clubes no ano e chegou a ser cotado por Tite, enquanto era técnico do Corinthians, para fazer parte da equipe paulista.

Nogiri falou sobre as propostas que Noris já recebeu e admitiu que, hoje, não tem propostas. Além disso, o empresário garante que sempre trabalha com a decisão do jogador:

— Hoje, não tem proposta por ele, mas a gente trabalhou sempre com a decisão do jogador. Neris chegou a falar que não poderia sair com Milton Mendes no comando do time, porque não queria deixá-lo na mão. Tomou a decisão de continuar. Se foi acertada ou não, eu não sei.

Apesar do possível rebaixamento do Santa Cruz nesta temporada, Nogiri fala sobre aproveitar as propostas decorrentes da valorização que o jogador teve em 2017

— Não estamos condicionando nada para uma renovação com o Santa Cruz ainda. Vamos ver o plano que eles têm para Neris, o projeto. Da mesma maneira que, quando surge uma proposta, não dá para perder o embalo.

O empresário não fala em valores para uma possível renovação com o Santa Cruz e diz que entende a situação financeira do clube:

— Sabemos das dificuldades. O Santa não pode cometer nenhum tipo de loucura

A diretoria do clube declara que há o interesse em renovar com o jogador, porém prefere não se posicionar abertamente sobre renovações antes do fim do campeonato. O diretor de futebol Jomar Rocha, também em entrevista ao “Superesportes” falou sobre as renovações:

— O momento agora é tocar o Brasileirão. Quando a Série A acabar, vamos nos posicionar. Acabando o Brasileiro bem, com um clima melhor, fica até mais fácil para as renovações.
