Liverpool were reportedly interested in signing Napoli centre-back Nikola Maksimovic this month and the Serbian international could be the man to ease their defensive woes.

It was suggested recently by talkSPORT’s Jim White that Napoli chairman Aurelio De Laurentiis claimed that Liverpool were previously interested in the 29-year-old, and expects them to still be interested due to their current injury problems, although he suggests that he has not heard anything of late about their interest.

If the stats are anything to go by, Maksimovic would go some way towards fixing Klopp’s problems in defence this season.

The German manager is set to be without the likes of Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez for the majority of the campaign, which has led to a frankly ridiculous number of different centre-back pairings so far this season.

Adding someone such as Maksimovic would add experience and consistency into Liverpool’s backline, with the Serbian having enjoyed a relatively injury-free career thus far. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said of Joel Matip.

The Reds have scored just six goals from set-pieces so far this season, which has them seventh out of all the Premier League sides, whereas last season they finished joint-top of the rankings with 17, which certainly suggests that they are missing the aerial threat of Van Dijk, with the Dutchman scoring five goals in the top-flight last season.

If Liverpool were to return for the Napoli centre-back this month, he could help replace that aerial threat, as he stands at 6 foot 2 and winning aerial duels looks to be one of his main strengths.

The Serbian has won on average two duels per game in Serie A, and 3.3 duels per game in the Europa League.

Fabinho, meanwhile, has averaged 2.1 won duels in the Premier League and just 0.8 duels in the Champions League, so you could definitely argue that Maksimovic is stronger in the air than the Brazilian.

Therefore, Michael Edwards should return for the 29-year-old this month, as with Transfermarkt valuing him at just £13.5 million, he could be a relatively cheap, short-term solution for Klopp’s side this season.

West Brom are quickly running out of time to bolster their squad in a desperate attempt to save their season.

Indeed, the Baggies find themselves second from bottom, some six points from safety at the half-way stage of this current campaign and with one available striker, no senior holding midfielder and the Premier League’s leakiest defence, Sam Allardyce needs additions – fast.

The 66-year-old, who took over from Slaven Bilic in mid-December, claimed that Albion would make “250 enquiries” before hopefully signing “three or four good players,” as per the BBC.

Although a lack of finances could curtail any major moves – the Telegraph’s John Percy revealed any deals in excess of £2m are improbable.

Less than ten days are remaining before the transfer deadline on February 1st.

The 28-year-old is yet to feature for Manchester United this season and according to the Daily Star could be free to leave on loan this window with the Old Trafford side contributing a sizeable amount to his £120k-per-week wages – that’s got to be a win-win for Albion, who are said to be interested.

As someone who has won the Premier League, FA Cup and the Europa League, his experience could be vital in any relegation battle.

It means, when fit, Allardyce’s backline could be Sam Johnstone in goal, a central defensive pairing of Kyle Bartley and Jones, with Conor Townsend on the left and Darnell Furlong on the right.

One defensive midfielder linked with a move to the Hawthorns has been versatile Celta Vigo enforcer Okay Yokuslu. The Daily Mail claim the Midlands side have already opened negotiations for the Turkey international.

He’d be an ideal replacement for Romaine Sawyers in that Baggies midfield as he’s an actual holding option.

Sawyers was a favourite of Bilic’s having started 42 of their 46 league games last term, only missing three of those four absences through suspension. However, he’s failed to live up to the standard of the top-flight – managing a WhoScored rating of just 6.21, the second-worst in the squad.

It means Yokuslu could come in with Gallagher and club captain Jake Livermore slightly ahead in the engine room, whilst on the wings, both Matheus Pereira and Grady Diangana get the nod.

Finally, Big Sam clinches that striker he’s longing for. Galatasaray frontman Mbaye Diagne seems most likely given the Lions’ entering negotiations for a replacement.

While Turkish football journalist Ali Naci Kucuk claims a loan move would only cost an €800k (£715k) fee, which is in line with what Percy revealed earlier this month.

As summer signing Karlan Grant is on the treatment table with a broken foot, he completes the starting XI, in time for that crunch-match with rock-bottom Sheffield United on February 2nd.

Nada como um jogo após o outro. Rodrigo Caio que o diga! Chamado de “jogador de condomínio” por Rodrigo Gaspar, assessor da presidência do São Paulo, logo após a derrota para o The Strongest (BOL), o camisa 3 respondeu da melhor forma. Além da atuação segura na reestreia de Lugano, marcou o gol da vitória por 1 a 0 sobre o Rio Claro, neste domingo, no Pacaembu. O Tricolor, assim, se reabilita no Campeonato Paulista e dá um alívio na crise. Apenas um respiro porque, se não fosse Rodrigo Caio, a situação poderia estar pior.

O São Paulo, definitivamente, não jogou bem. A defesa, inclusive Lugano, trabalhou com tranquilidade, até pela fragilidade do adversário, mas os problemas dos últimos jogos persistiram. A equipe de Edgardo Bauza ainda tem muita dificuldade para criar jogadas. Foram raras finalizações para o gol de Lucas Frigeri durante os 90 minutos. A ineficiência deixa ainda mais incompreensível a insistência do técnico argentino em alguns pontos.

Centurión, novamente, foi um desastre. Ao ponto de a torcida ter pedido Rogério aos 17 minutos, após dois erros do camisa 20. Exagero, mas no geral os fãs têm razão. Mesmo com pontas abertos, o São Paulo tem dificuldade de atuar pelo lado direito. Foi melhor do lado esquerdo, com Carlinhos no lugar do barrado Michel Bastos, mas timidamente. O camisa 6, aliás, foi quem cruzou na cabeça de Rodrigo Caio fazer o gol da vitória aos cinco minutos do segundo tempo.

O gol matou o Rio Claro, que tratou de se defender organizadamente e procurar brechas. Mas criou pouco. Alex Silva, tricampeão brasileiro pelo São Paulo, foi destaque no duelo com o argentino Calleri. Bem marcado e pouco acionado, o camisa 12 já está há quatro jogos sem marcar após os três iniciais.

A vitória dá um pouco de tranquilidade para o trabalho de Bauza, mas serve ainda mais de alerta. O futebol apresentado neste início de temporada dá razão aos torcedores que protestaram no Pacaembu, abrindo fogo contra Michel Bastos, mas também com o time. É preciso reagir rápido, porque o clima no vestiário já complicou e a volta de Lugano, apesar de um bom sinal, não pode ser solução.

No fim, o torcedor são-paulino pôde se reencontrar com o ídolo, embora ele não tenha sido o capitão pedido, já que Denis ficou com a faixa. De quebra, também comemorou gol de um jogador criado no clube, com potencial para estar na reformulação de que o clube precisa. Isso é, se outros Rodrigos permitirem.

According to Calciomercato, Aston Villa have started to press for the signing of Sogndal starlet Sivert Mannsverk.

What’s the story?

Reports in recent weeks have suggested Dean Smith’s side are interested in signing the 18-year-old and bringing him to the Premier League in this January transfer window.

Now, Calciomercato (via Sport Witness) have claimed that whilst both Villa and Everton have started to make their move for the Norwegian, but that they face a race against time to try and complete a deal.

The report adds that the two Premier League sides are a step behind both Ajax and Groninjen as the two Dutch teams have come forward with official offers for the midfielder.

Smith’s next crown jewel

After the excitement that Villa’s academy players brought following their involvement in the FA Cup third round clash against Liverpool, the club will have seen first-hand the kind of impact young, hungry talent can bring.

And whilst Louie Barry was the undoubted star following his goal against the Reds, Villa could really add to their abundance of young stars with a move for Mannsverk.

The teenager has already been named captain of Sorndal, and has been compared to Sheffield United midfielder Sander Berge for his style of play.

Predominantly a central midfielder, Mannsverk can play further forward and a bit deeper too, and showed off his impressive potential with four goals and four assists in 29 competitive appearances last season whilst wearing the armband for his side.

With scouts from clubs all across the globe, finding the next big superstar who’s yet to be properly discovered has become a tall order. And given Mannsverk has already attracted interest from the likes of Everton and Ajax among others, it just goes to show Johan Lange has got a tough job trying to get a deal done.

But if he can, he could get Smith’s next crown jewel to go along with the likes of Barry and Jacob Ramsey.

Meanwhile, Villa are making an unforgivable mistake…

أصدر الاتحاد الإسباني لكرة القدم، بيانًا رسميًا، اليوم الأربعاء، أعلن من خلاله تضامنه مع أندية ريال مدريد، برشلونة، أتلتيك بلباو، إذ تعترض الأندية الثلاثة على اتفاقية صندوق الاستثمار الدولي “CVC”، المُقدمة من رابطة الدوري الإسباني “لا ليجا”.

ووافقت رابطة الدوري الإسباني على اتفاقية مع صندوق الاستثمار، من أجل مساعدة الأندية في الدرجة الأولى والثانية ماديًا بقيمة 2700 مليون يورو.

وسيتم تطبيق اتفاقية الليجا وصندوق الاستثمار الدولي على كل فرق الليجا وفرق الدرجة الثانية، باستثناء ريال مدريد، وبرشلونة، وأتلتيك بلباو، حيث رفضوا الاتفاقية.

وقامت الأندية الثلاث المذكورة، بتقديم اقتراح بديل لرابطة الليجا بتمويل 2000 مليون يورو على مدى 25 سنة بفائدة سنوية، بدلًا من قرض صندوق الاستثمار والذي سيُسدد على 50 عامًا، ولكن رابطة الليجا رفض ذلك، مُشيرة إلى أن هذه الاقتراح سيُدمر المنافسة مُستقبلًا بالليجا.

– ولا يمكن أن ينتمي الدوري إلا الى الأندية، ولا يمكن إدارته إلا من قبل الأندية التي تلعب في الدرجتين الأولى والثانية في أي وقت، دون تعريض التوقعات المشروعة للأندية ذات المستوى الأدنى للخطر بأي شكل من الأشكال.

– لذلك، نحن ملزمون بأن نجعل أنفسنا متاحين للأندية التي لا ترغب في ربط وجهة المنافسة بصناديق رأس المال الاستثماري من أجل المساعدة، ونحن في الاتحاد الاسباني نسعى لبناء حلول متوافقة مع نظامنا القانوني والحفاظ على القيم التقليدية لكرة القدم الاسبانية.

No clássico entre os dois grandes até então invictos do Carioca-2016, a probabilidade de que chegasse ao fim a série sem derrotas de um dos dois times era de 66%. Mas os 33% do empate prevaleceu no clássico entre Vasco e Botafogo, neste domingo, em São Januário. O jogo foi bom, animado, e o 1 a 1 só se definiu nos minutos finais, com um golaço do zagueiro Emerson para o Alvinegro, após o Cruz-Maltino largar na frente com Riascos.

O resultado pela sétima rodada não afeta em nada os planos dos dois times em relação à classificação para a segunda fase. Vasco, líder do Grupo A, chegou aos 17 pontos, enquanto o Glorioso, na ponta do Grupo B, foi a 19.

Na próxima rodada, a última da primeira fase, o Vasco enfrenta o Bonsucesso, em Los Lários, enquanto o Botafogo visita o Boavista, em Bacaxá.

No primeiro tempo, o Vasco se mostrou mais à vontade em campo, até porque demorou para que o Botafogo se organizasse minimamente para conseguir sair jogando. O time cruz-maltino se mostrou mais robusto quando buscou as jogadas pelo lado, principalmente pelo direito. Quem mais levou perigo ao Botafogo foi Riascos – por mais que seja surpreendente para alguns. O colombiano, inclusive, quase fez um golaço, em um chute cruzado dado após entortar a defesa.

Mas o Vasco não foi totalmente soberano na etapa inicial. Um “blackout” de Rodrigo, recuando mal uma bola para Martin Silva, quase resultou em gol do Botafogo. A cabeça do zagueiro só não foi para a guilhotina porque a finalização de Ribamar foi interceptada pelo goleiro uruguaio.

Ricardo Gomes não ficou satisfeito com o que viu na etapa inicial e logo para o começo do segundo tempo lançou Neilton no jogo. E o garoto, que ainda está recuperando a melhor forma física, entrou cheio de pressão, quase marcando.

Jorginho também mexeu. Optou por Eder Luis. Outro para botar pressão no jogo. E dessa vez funcionou. Dois minutos depois, Eder deixou Riascos sem goleiro, dentro da pequena área. Gol do Vasco, gol de um dos artilheiros do Carioca, em uma das melhores apresentações dele pelo clube. Pena para o Vasco que o mesmo Riascos saiu machucado dez minutos depois.

O Botafogo sentiu o baque, diminuiu a intensidade, ficou meio perdido. Mas, quase no apagar das luzes, o zagueiro Emerson acertou um chutaço de falta, fazendo o golaço e empatando o placar no clássico.

وقال سمير عثمان في تصريحات تلفزيونية لفضائية “أون تايم سبورتس” عقب اللقاء: “الحكم لابد أن يتحدث مع المدرب بطريقة لائقة، لكن كونه يلوح بيده لكارلوس كيروش، وهذا غير لائق”.

وأضاف: “الحكم إيراني وكيروش كان مدربًا لمنتخب إيران، وواضح أن بينهما شيء قديم”.

وأردف: “هذا بجانب لقطة أخرى، ركلة مرمى لصالح مصر احتسبها ركنية لصالح تونس رغم أن زاوية الرؤية واضحة”.

واستكمل: “الفرصة التي أضاعها مروان حمدي لم يكن بها تسلل ولو كان اللاعب سجل هدفًا لاحتسب، لا أعرف حكم الراية رفع رايته على أي أساس؟!، وأيضًا الكرة بها ركلة جزاء من خلال إعاقة الحارس لمروان حمدي”.

واستطرد: “هناك أخطاء غريبة فعلها الحكم اليوم، كان يسير في الملعب ولا يركض”.

وواصل: “ركلة الجزاء التي ألغيت لتونس لا يُمكن أن تُحتسب في أي مكان بالعالم، رغم أن زاوية رؤيته جيدة، فوجئنا بأنه يحتسبها رغم إنه قريب، والحمد لله إن هناك تقنية فيديو”.

وأتم: “كان هناك خطأ لصالح مصطفى فتحي ولكن الحكم أشار باستمرار اللعب، وكان أحد الاحتياطيين في دكة تونس يقول له استمر لا يوجد خطأ والحكم استمر”.

واختتم: “أتمنى أن يراعي فيفا اختيارات الحكام لأن حكم اليوم في مباراة مصر وتونس لم يكن على المستوى”.

The Athletic’s Steve Madeley and Charlie Eccleshare claim the 21-year-old is a target for Sam Allardyce ahead of tonight’s 11pm transfer deadline.

It’s claimed that the Baggies want to make the most of their final domestic loan spot as they battle for survival in the Premier League, and after being dealt a blow in their pursuit of ‘top choice’ Ainsley Maitland-Niles, they are eyeing the Spurs youngster.

It’s no secret that Albion need defensive reinforcements and whilst the defensive midfield addition of Okay Yokuslu from Celta Vigo is one step in the right direction, it simply isn’t enough.

Indeed, the Midlands outfit have leaked a whopping 50 goals from their 21 league outings, 14 more goals than any other top-flight team at this stage. In the five home games under Allardyce alone, West Brom have shipped 19 goals.

The 66-year-old has an almighty task to turn things around as they sit nine points adrift of safety, so fixing that abysmal backline is a good decision ahead of the deadline this evening.

At 6-foot, Tangana offers some much-needed versatility as he’s able to play centrally as well as on the right, the latter of which is probably where he would play as Spurs boss Jose Mourinho sees him as a future full-back.

“Tanganga for me, is a full-back. A multi-functional defensive player but firstly a full-back” said the Special One earlier this campaign, via football.london.

The Hotspur academy graduate is relatively inexperienced having only featured 18 times at a senior level, but he has shown glimpses of his potential as seen by his contribution towards clean sheets against Man City and Watford last term.

He’s even caught the eye of Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, who was hugely impressed by Tanganga in his debut against them. Spurs fell to a 1-0 defeat that day, but the 21-year-old excelled at right-back when coming up against the enigmatic Sadio Mane.

Indeed, Tanganga graded as Spurs’ best player with a 7.4 SofaScore rating. He made eight clearances, two tackles and won five duels. After the game Klopp waxed lyrical, he told reporters:

“I didn’t know about him and it was a surprise. Our matchday analyst told me about him. He played well. It was nice when the crowd cheered his name. It was his first Premier League game? Very impressive.”

Whilst Darren Bent lauded him as a “very exciting prospect” to Football Insider, so there is certainly a gem to be unearthed here.

Given he’s only on a reported £25k-per-week in north London, the £7.2m-rated titan could be a decent bargain for that final domestic loan spot. You’d imagine Spurs would love him to get regular game time at this level too.
