Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola is wanted by his old club Bayern Munich according to new reports from Sport Bild.

What’s the story?

Guardiola spent three seasons with Bayern and won the Bundesliga title in each of those campaigns. The Spaniard would also bag the club two German Cups and a FIFA Club World Cup during his spell with the Reds.

Now, it seems that the German giants are seeking a return for the legendary manager. Sport Bild (via Daily Mail) stated how Guardiola is amongst the shortlist of a new manager after the club sacked Niko Kovac. The reports also tell how the City manager’s family is unhappy in Manchester and have returned to Spain as a result.

Stop at nothing to keep him

Manchester City have had the money and the power to bring in almost any player they want for over 10 years now. In this time, successful managers such as Roberto Mancini and Manuel Pellegrini have come and gone.

Now, with Guardiola, City finally have a man they have been able to build record-breaking success with. Since the Spaniard arrived in 2016, the club have been able to go from strength to strength and establish itself as a legendary team for the record books.

The former Barcelona man has won back-to-back Premier League titles, which has also seen him claim two Manager of the Season awards. On top of this, an unrivalled domestic treble last season has further shown how important the 48-year-old is for the blue side of Manchester.

Plus, with Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool constantly improving, it is vital that City keep a man of equal capabilities at the helm. Klopp already has a Champions League title with Liverpool and may have a Premier League trophy to add as a result of the club’s position right now.

Guardiola is simply irreplaceable and if the club wants to finally reach the pinnacle of European football, keeping hold of him is absolutely essential.

Ruben Dias, Angelo Buta and Jose Sa all have some very particular things in common. They’re all Portuguese, they’re all clients of Jorge Mendes and coincidentally, they’re all targets for Wolves.

Dias was the subject of yet more interest last week (O Jogo, via Sport Witness) while Buta was subject of speculation from the Sunday Mirror at the weekend.

Sa, however, was linked in the Greek press last week with Leicester, West Ham and Arsenal also reportedly showing an interest in the goalkeeper ahead of January.

Considering Wolves already have Rui Patricio among their ranks, it would perhaps be bizarre to bring in a stopper currently at the top of his game in the Champions League.

On the chalkboard

Currently playing for Olympiacos, the 26-year-old has been in sublime form in Europe’s elite competition this season.

In a 2-0 defeat for his side against Bayern, he made an incredible nine saves, earning plaudits from Manuel Neuer in the process as he did his utmost to keep the Greek champions in the game.

He ultimately failed to do so but it was fine evidence of the qualities he possesses, demonstrating fantastic concentration and reflexes.

If Wolves did end up making a move for him then presumably he’d come in as Patricio’s number two. After all, the fellow Portuguese hasn’t done a lot wrong at Molineux.

With that in mind, it could finally spell the end of John Ruddy’s time in the old gold. The experienced professional was vital when Wolves came up, being named in the PFA Championship Team of the year.

However, he’s rarely been afforded any game time and has been restricted to Carabao Cup appearances this term. He also played just once throughout Wolves’ Europa League qualifying campaign.

Since Patricio arrived, he’s played as few as 12 times and has found matches even harder to come by in 2019/20. The 33-year-old has had to remain patient but it’s unlikely he’d take too kindly to being bumped further down the pecking order if another ‘keeper arrives.

With Sa very much in the pipeline, this only serves as bad news for Ruddy and he may have to look elsewhere for the best of his career.

It has been a difficult start to the season for Everton so far this campaign.

On December 4, the two teams will meet at Anfield. The Goodison Park outfit have announced that they will be holding a screening for the game, but it seems that many of the club’s supporters don’t plan on attending.

Stuart Dallas is a key member of the Leeds squad and his versatility is a pivotal factor in the team challenging for promotion.

On the chalkboard

The Northern Ireland international is into his fifth season at Elland Road and it seems that with each passing year his importance to the team becomes greater.

Fans certainly appreciate his flexibility and know that without him filling in at various positions the team would be a lot worse off.

The 28-year-old is able to play at either wing and in both full-back positions, and when injury-prone players like Luke Ayling and Barry Douglas are part of the squad that means Dallas performs a key role.

He has operated in centre-midfield this season too but has mostly been used at right-back, and it was that experience which served him well playing on the left against Luton, with five tackles made as well as achieving a pass accuracy of 88%.

That shows he is well suited to both the defensive and attacking aspects of the role, and his energy in getting up and down is vital to the press and containing the opposition attack in his own final third.

First-choice full-back

As mentioned, both Ayling and Douglas can be unreliable in terms of their fitness, but the former has also underperformed since returning to the side, and there is a good case to suggest he should be dropped for the match against Reading.

Dallas, as always, is ready to be called upon and willing to perform in whichever position Marcelo Bielsa puts him in, and more often than not he puts in an impressive shift – as fans can attest to.

The key for the Argentine may be how comfortable Dallas is in possession. He rarely gives the ball away and that is key to the Bielsa’s style, in pinning down the opposition and offering a threat on the overlap.

Ezgjan Alioski has provided that at times this campaign, too, and has two goals to his name, so Bielsa could consider recalling him to the side and playing Dallas at right-back, even though it’s Ayling’s natural position.

Regardless, Leeds have lost just three of the 17 games Dallas has started, and that has justified Bielsa’s decision to play him at full-back, as well as showing how useful he is to the team’s prospects of promotion.

Meanwhile, Leeds supporters have also been discussing Dan James and how he has settled at Manchester United.

Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl has been speaking to the media about Michael Obafemi, and his comments on the teenager are quite interesting.

Obafemi, 19, recently made his first Premier League start of the campaign against Arsenal, his 12th top-flight appearance in total since he broke into the Southampton first-team.

In that time, the Irishman has scored one goal and assisted another, but he very rarely gets to start for the south coast side – he has only ever been handed two Premier League starts.

What did he say?

Speaking about the academy graduate, Hasenhuttl said: “He still has a lack of professionalism in his whole life.

“This is a young guy who must learn quickly. If he does this and gets more physical, fit and can make this workload for a longer time, then he has a big future.

“There is still a long way to go for him.”

There is definitely no denying his talent, and whenever he does seem to get onto the pitch he can cause problems for the opposition with his stocky frame, willingness to run the channels and fairly decent finishing ability – he certainly proved what he could do with an impressive showing against Arsenal.

However, seeing his name on the teamsheet is a rarity, and while many may presumably have put that down to the fact that he has quality competition such as Danny Ings and Che Adams ahead of him, Hasenhuttl might have pinpointed the actual reason as to why Obafemi is being drip-fed top-flight football.

Admittedly, the youngster has suffered his fair share of injury issues that have hampered his footballing development, missing 23 games in total across last season – however, even when he has been fit, starts have been hard to come by.
