While it’d be unfair to ignore too many players during what has been a stunning three seasons for Celtic, some have obviously played more important roles in their dominance than others. Kieran Tierney has emerged as the Hoops’ golden boy as well as one of the most promising left-backs on the continent and, elsewhere, Callum McGregor won Celtic’s official and Players’ Player of the Year awards.

Obviously, both are key in Neil Lennon’s side, but former boss Brendan Rodgers is allegedly keen on luring his former prized assets away from Paradise. Indeed, according to the Daily Record, Leicester are apparently interested in a double swoop from Celtic, targeting both Tierney and McGregor to solve different issues in their squad and, in our minds, this taking place would be a catastrophe.

Still, there might not be much need to worry.

Tierney is clearly a Celtic diehard and even committed himself “for life” at Celtic back in 2017 and, while reported interest in him naturally won’t be welcome, it’s a problem the club have had to deal with for a while now. After all, the likes of Borussia Dortmund have been previously linked, but the 22-year-old has shown no signs of wanting to depart.

McGregor is another who has been crucial to the club’s success and the Scotland midfielder has previously spoken of his desire to remain a one-club man. So, alongside Tierney, these are two players who have bought into what it means to play for the club and have done little to suggest they’d want to leave.

Now, things can obviously change and the saga that saw Rodgers leave Parkhead for the East Midlands himself shows loyalty can disappear in an instant but there doesn’t appear to be much too much of a worry right now. Yes, football is littered with tales of players moving on for a bigger salary elsewhere but the two players in question do quite obviously have a connection to the Bhoys.

Considering their importance to the cause and the kind of comments they’ve made in regards to their futures thus far, it certainly wouldn’t be an easy task prying them away just yet. If the reports are correct, Rodgers might be barking up the wrong tree.

Leeds’ fixtures for next season have been announced, and the EFL haven’t been kind to the Whites with their scheduling.

The festive period presents the Yorkshire club with some of the most challenging fixtures they could ask for, and if they want to get promoted next season they need to improve on how they performed around Christmas last year.

Last season

Marcelo Bielsa’s team can count themselves incredibly lucky that they picked up as many points as they did over the Christmas and New Year period last term.

The Whites rescued four points with three injury-time goals against Aston Villa and Blackburn either side of Christmas. In these matches, Leeds looked off the pace and slow, and they were only saved by a late bit of brilliance from Kemar Roofe both times.

It’s unlikely that the Whites will get away with that again this season, and their poor performances ended up catching up with them. The Yorkshire outfit would go on to lose four of their next six games, including winnable matches against Nottingham Forest and Hull. This run saw them loosen their grip on the automatic promotion spots.

This year their run of fixtures during that period is even harder; therefore, their performances need to step up.

This season

In mid-December, the Whites play two clubs who will expect to be promotion hopefuls in Cardiff and Fulham, before a Boxing Day clash with Preston who knocked Bielsa and co out of the EFL Cup last year.

The game after that is a tough away fixture at Birmingham City, who were the only side to do the double over Leeds last term.

Things don’t get easier from there – West Brom away on New Year’s Day is swiftly followed by a Yorkshire derby against Sheffield Wednesday.

Comparing this to last season’s run over the festive period, and you can see their fixtures are much tougher this time around.

United can’t allow themselves to lose focus around this time of year again, as last campaign it proved to be costly as the points they dropped around this time ruined their hopes of being promoted.

يذكر، أن المقاولون العرب قد نجح في اقتناص ثلاث نقاط هامة من الإسماعيلي أمس الأثنين، بفوز بهدف نظيف في اللقاء الذي أقيم على ملعب استاد الاسماعيلية.

According to The Sun, Dean Henderson has asked for a whopping £75k-a-week in order to sign a new contract with the club.

What’s the word, then?

Well, the England Under-21 stopper has just 12 months remaining on his current deal at Old Trafford, and is believed to have asked for £75k-a-week in order to sign a new one – this would be triple his £25k-a-week salary.

Henderson starred whilst out on loan with Sheffield United in the Championship last term, helping the Blades win promotion to the Premier League whilst keeping an impressive 21 clean sheets – enough for the 22-year-old to win the Golden Glove.

The former Carlisle glovesman has never made an appearance of any kind for United since joining them eight years ago, but wants a show of faith from United in the form of a £75k-a-week contract offer.

Dan James salary has started a microcosm of Alexis Sanchez issue

Alexis Sanchez’s huge £500k-a-week wages have caused an imbalance in the dressing room and lead to a number of players seeking similar pay. David De Gea has pointed to the Chilean’s earnings when making his own demands over a new deal, Marcus Rashford now wants £350k-a-week due to his team-mate’s lofty pay and United are reportedly prepared to give Paul Pogba £500k-a-week to keep him at the club.

One can only assume that’s about top-earner status as much as the actual money involved, but nonetheless the huge contract given to Sanchez has pushed United down a dangerous path.

In the aforementioned report from The Sun, it states that Henderson wants ‘more than parity’ with new boy Dan James, who was signed in a £18m deal from Swansea and handed a huge £67k-a-week deal – sixteen times the £4k-a-week he was earning in Wales.

Why United felt the need to hand the Welshman such a huge pay packet is unknown, but is was unnecessary and has caused a microcosm of the Sanchez issue, with Henderson now making astronomical demands based on James’ earnings and rightly so seeing as he arguably performed better than the winger in the Championship last term. He gained promotion with Sheffield United and the division’s Golden Glove award.

The Red Devils aren’t learning their lesson in terms of handing out huge wages, and the Sanchez debacle has reared its ugly head yet again in microcosmic form.

واستكمل: “هل كنا سنسجل المزيد من الأهداف مع وجود مدافع جديد؟ غير متأكد، هل سيمنحنا بعض الاستقرار في لحظات معينة؟ ربما نعم، لم نكن لنفوز في مباراتنا الخميس (أمام بيرنلي) بوضعنا هذا حتى في حال وجود مدافع جديد”.

The Fulham left-back, who can also play as a winger, has long been touted as a target for Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

The club have thus far been unable to match the Cottagers’ asking price of £45m.

Sessegnon, of course, stayed at the club following their promotion to the Premier League but was unable to prevent their subsequent relegation, though he made a total of 38 appearances in all competitions in 2018/19, scoring twice and registering six assists.

Spurs, the report claims, are confident a deal can be done this summer as they attempt to bring in a flurry of new arrivals.

The same report claims that the club have reached an agreement with Leeds United to sign winger Jack Clarke, while Lyon’s Tanguy Ndombele is also set to complete a £55m move to north London.

Classic Levy

Sessegnon would be an excellent addition for Spurs this summer.

He is a young player with heaps of potential who can potentially upgrade two positions for the club; Ben Davies is not a particularly brilliant back-up to Danny Rose at full-back, while there is precious little depth beyond Son Heung-Min on the left flank.

Doing a deal at less than half the club’s asking price would be astonishing work from chairman Daniel Levy and his driving a hard bargain will surely help Spurs in the long-run.

Sessegnon, after all, is out of contract next summer and the Mail claim he is not set to sign an extension, as he is aware of the interest in his services.

A coveted youngster with a remarkably high ceiling, bringing him in for £25m would be a bargain befitting Levy’s reputation as an exceptional negotiator.

Celtic fans aren’t happy with Neil Lennon’s decision not to start Christopher Jullien in the club’s first competitive match of the season.

Jullien, one of their big summer signings, does not feature with Lennon appearing to opt for a pairing of Jozo Simunovic and Nir Bitton in the heart of the defensive line, while it’s possible Kristoffer Ajer could be joining them in a back three.

The former Toulouse man has only had a week’s training with his new teammates, so it makes sense that the Hoops boss might not want to risk his fitness in a match of such importance.

Celtic are looking to progress to the group stages of the competition and have a gruelling four rounds of qualifying to navigate in order to do so, so it’s likely Jullien will feature sooner rather than later this summer.
