West Ham fans unhappy with Zabaleta contract extension

[ad_pod ]

West Ham United fans have been left bemused by the news that Pablo Zabaleta has extended his stay at the club.

The Hammers have triggered a clause in the Argentine’s contract, tying him to the club until 2020.

At the age of 34, Zabaleta has made a total of 26 appearances this season, though he has occasionally been left out of Manuel Pellegrini’s Premier League squads.

Nevertheless, the former Manchester City star, who has won two Premier League titles, the FA Cup and two League Cups during his stay in England, will again be on the books of the Irons next season.

Zabaleta has enjoyed a solid if unspectacular season and has laid on just one assist, though his experience is clearly seen as invaluable by the Irons.

He has made a total of 65 appearances for the Hammers since joining in 2017 but a number of fans are unhappy that he will have the chance to add to that tally, with many deeming him over the hill.

Take a look at the best of the reaction below!

Emotions rather than tactics will ultimately decide the Champions League final

[ad_pod ]

Tottenham Hotspur will play Liverpool in the Champions League final after an astonishing week of results in Europe.

On the chalkboard

Spurs headed into their clash with Ajax with a 1-0 deficit to overturn but fell 2-0 behind in Amsterdam.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men, though, staged an astonishing comeback to win 3-2 away from home, with Lucas Moura scoring a hat-trick. Mauricio Pochettino cried at the full-time whistle, as did much of his coaching staff.

Liverpool were also 3-0 behind on aggregate against Barcelona but produced another exceptional European night at Anfield, winning 4-0 to dump out Lionel Messi and Co. James Milner, like Pochettino, cried on the full-time whistle; Jurgen Klopp swore in a television interview.

The final, then, will surely be one judged on emotion rather than tactical intuition.

Both managers are exceptional at putting their teams together and creating systems within which their players thrive.

But, at the end of the day, both Pochettino and Klopp are emotional men, they wear their hearts on their sleeves and they are completely unafraid to own their feelings in front of millions.

It is inspiring, really, in an era of toxic masculinity but it will be interesting to see how the final will be decided. Will Pochettino stick with the attacking players who have got the club this far? Will he drop Lucas? Will he restore Harry Kane to the XI if he is fit?

Will Klopp stick with Divock Origi? Will Mohamed Salah be back in the team? Will it be an excellent tactical decision that ultimately swings the final one way or the other?

Or will emotion be the overriding factor?

An all-English thriller

Both Liverpool and Spurs are attacking teams at heart and caution will surely be thrown to the wind; this is a final after all.

Klopp and Pochettino are often beaten with the ‘what has he won’ stick.

And yet their first trophies while managing English clubs could well be the Champions League.

Emotions, then, will surely be running high.

If Spurs win, an 11-year trophy drought will be ended and Spurs will win the competition in its current incarnation for the first time.

If Liverpool win, they will collect their sixth European trophy, outlining their elite credentials to millions around the globe.

Whatever happens, expect the tears to flow.

No way: West Ham fans tell club to swerve Diame deal

[ad_pod ]According to the Daily Sabah, via Inside Futbol, West Ham United are considering re-signing Newcastle United midfielder Mohamed Diame. The report claims that Fenerbahce lead the race for Diame, but both West Ham and Crystal Palace are in the hunt.Diame turned out for the Hammers between 2012 and 2014 – scoring seven times in 79 appearances – before joining Hull City. The 31-year-old will seemingly be leaving Newcastle on a free transfer this summer following the expiration of his contract. However, it would be fair to say that the West Ham fans do not want their club to make a bid to re-sign the 6 ft ace.Diame has actually made 239 appearances in the Premier League, meaning that he is incredibly experienced at the top level. In this era of ‘big 6’ dominance, has finishing 7th become as good as winning a trophy? The Pl>ymaker FC squad have their say in the video below…The West Ham supporters are just not interested, however, and would be disappointed if a deal was to be agreed.A selection of the Twitter reaction can be seen below:

Jake Humphrey responds to news that Matt Jarvis is to leave Norwich City

[ad_pod ]Matt Jarvis was one of several players released by Norwich City ahead of their return to the Premier League.

This post prompted a response on Twitter from BT Sports presenter and massive Norwich City fan Jake Humphrey.

The 33-year-old spent three-and-a-half-years at Norwich but only made 21 appearances because of a 31-month period of time out injured.

Jarvis joined Norwich from West Ham United – initially on loan – in September 2015 but in the following January the Canaries made the move permanent for £2.5m.

This brought an end to Jarvis’s rather unsuccessful spell in East London with the Hammers, where he made 90 appearances and only scored six goals as well as providing eight assists.

Jarvis had joined West Ham for £10m in August 2012 from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The Middlesbrough born man made his name at Wolves during a five-year-stint in the Black Country.

He was known for his direct running and ability to whip in an excellent cros.

Jarvis put in three solid seasons with Wolves in the Premier League from 2009-12. In that time he made 108 appearances, scoring 13 times and registering 19 assists.

He leaves Norwich knowing that his only chance of regular first-team football will probably be with a side in League One.

Predicted XI: How Leeds could line up after Qatari investment

[ad_pod ]

Rumours have been rampant this week that Leeds United are set to receive investment from Qatar Sports Investments.

Andrea Radrizzani’s comments after Marcelo Bielsa’s contract was extended implies he isn’t going anywhere, but investment from multi-billionaires would certainly help him resolve the “unfinished business” he feels there is at Elland Road.

This financial group led by Nasser bin Ghanim Al-Khelaifi are responsible for the financial boom that has happened at PSG over the past decade, and their presence at the club could spell some big-money signings arriving.

The line-up

Kiko Casilla: The Champions League winner may flourish if he doesn’t have the pressure of being one of the Whites’ highest earners.

Luke Ayling: Ayling has become one of the best right-backs in the division, so it would be extremely harsh to get rid of him.

Liam Cooper: The captain retains his place in the team after his incredible performances last season.

Yoann Barbet: The Frenchman is available on a free but Leeds’ ability to offer high wages could see him choose Elland Road over any of his other possible destinations.

Ezgjan Alioski: The Swiss left-back will face competition from Barry Douglas for this position, but the Yorkshire outfit don’t need to strengthen here.

Kalvin Phillips: He has been heavily linked with a Premier League move, but this new project at his hometown club should be enough to convince him to stay.

Jese Rodriguez: A big-name arrival. Leeds were interested in January and rumours have started up again. QSI’s links with PSG will certainly help get this one done, but the fact that he was a flop when he joined Stoke City previously in England is surely a potential worry.

Fabian Delph: A reported £15 million move seemed unlikely at the time, but that fee may now be a drop in the ocean with this type of investment.

Mateusz Klich: The Pole started every game under Bielsa last season, so there is no reason to believe he will be replaced.

Pablo Hernandez: 2018/19 Player of the Season should be in no danger of being replaced as he still has a lot to offer.

Dwight Gayle: Arguably the Championship’s most reliable goalscorer. The Whites have been linked with an expensive deal, and that would be a real possibility if the Qatari investment comes to fruition.

Sheffield Wednesday: Bruce should go all-out to bring in Benjamin Kololli

It has been a roller-coaster of a year to be a Sheffield Wednesday supporter, hasn’t it?

After witnessing their side suffer an appalling start to the 2018/19 campaign under Jos Luhukay, the Hillsborough faithful would have been very concerned about the prospect of being dragged into a relegation battle.

Yet with the club dropping like a stone in the Championship standings, chairman Dejphon Chansiri made the crucial call to sack the Portuguese boss in December with Steve Bruce being brought in to steady the ship.

Having done just that by securing a 12th place finish earlier this month, the 58-year-old will be looking to launch a sustained push for promotion next season.

Yet in order to achieve this, Bruce simply must get his recruitment spot on this summer.

Although it is fair to say that the Owls need to make improvements in several positions in the transfer market, their number one priority must be to sign a winger who has the potential to set the Championship alight.

With both George Boyd and Marco Matias scheduled to leave the club next month when their contracts expire, Bruce should turn his attention to securing the services of one of Swiss football’s most exciting players.

According to Football Insider, the Owls are reportedly interested in signing Benjamin Kololli from FC Zurich after being impressed by the nature of the 27-year-old’s performances.

A fantastic technician, the £2.48m-rated ace (via Transfermarkt) has arguably been Stadtclub’s most important player this season as, without him, they could have easily suffered an embarrassing relegation to the Challenge League.

Yet with Kololli managing to fire in a spectacular total of 14 goals in all competitions whilst also providing six assists, Zurich managed to secure their stay in Switzerland’s top division.

Clearly a special player, the 27-year-old would arguably be an upgrade on Adam Reach who despite being brilliant on his day, does tend to drift in and out of games for the Owls.

Therefore, if the Kololli is indeed available this summer, Wednesday must do everything they possibly can to convince him to make the switch to West Yorkshire as he could prove to be the missing piece in Bruce’s jigsaw.

What do you think Owls fans? Should Bruce go all-out to try and sign Kololli this summer? How important is it that the former Aston Villa boss recruits the right players in the transfer window? Get in touch below.

Celtic fans on Twitter have been going in on Jake Hastie after ten in a row comments

Eight in a row has been confirmed, Neil Lennon has been offered the permanent job at Parkhead and now it’s up to the Bhoys to get behind their side and kick on for the final two league titles to make it ten in a row. However, new Rangers signing Jake Hastie has been caught on holiday in Ibiza claiming he’s moving to Ibrox to stop the ten.

As you can probably imagine, this has not gone down well amongst the Hoops. Parkhead will not forget this kind of thing either, so when Rangers next face Celtic in the 2019/20 season, expect Hastie to get a baptism of fire in the Old Firm. The Hoops have also been especially hard on the ex-Motherwell man seeing as he’s previously claimed to be a Celtic fan, leading to the Bhoys calling him every name under the sun.

Back in 2018, there would be very few supporters of either Rangers or Celtic who would have known anything at all about Jake Hastie, yet now he’s being touted as this special young winger who will undoubtedly improve the Bluenoses. That says all you need to know about his rise in the second half of the season, but as far as the Bhoys are concerned there’s little that the 21-year-old can do to stop their dominance in the Scottish domestic scene.

You can read the Bhoys’ thoughts on Hastie’s comments here:

The Bhoys cannot wait to see Hastie on the losing end of an Old Firm after this and will be desperate to ensure he ends his debut season as a Ger trophyless.

Celtic fans, what do you think of Jake Hastie’s comments? Comment below and let us know!

Would be unreal: Leeds fans want Helder Costa

[ad_pod ]

Loads of Leeds United fans on Twitter are excited at the prospect of signing Helder Costa this summer after Phil Hay wrote an article linking the Whites to the Portuguese winger.

The 25-year-old was electric for Wolves when they were in the Championship, but now the Midlands club seem content to let him go out on loan after a lacklustre first season in the top flight.

The winger scored just once last term while adding only two assists. A significant decrease on the 15 goals he scored over two seasons in the Championship where he also crafted 14 assists.

Hay has previously reported that Marcelo Bielsa’s side want to strengthen out wide this summer, and this signing would certainly help towards that.

It remains to be seen whether Andrea Radrizzani and Victor Orta can negotiate this signing successfully, but if they do, it will undoubtedly be a very popular move.

Here’s what the Elland Road faithful have been saying on Twitter…

Assessing Aston Villa’s wide problem: Harry Wilson vs. Said Benrahma

[ad_pod ]

Aston Villa’s 2018/19 campaign went above and beyond expectation.

Hit with financial trouble last summer, the club were bought by Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens. In the process, they saved the football club and with the help of Dean Smith who replaced Steve Bruce last October, the platform was set.

After suffering play-off final heartbreak last year, bouncing back in the way they did took steel and determination.

But a different type of character will now be required. Villa officials surely have bigger ambitions than merely fighting for survival next term, but that must be the focus before anything else.

Ahead of a return to the Premier League, the Villans have already been busy in the transfer window. Last week they confirmed the signing of Jota from Birmingham whilst Anwar El Ghazi has also signed on a permanent deal after his loan spell came to an end.

Both wingers, it’s an indication of where Smith’s men will have to significantly improve in 2019/20.

El Ghazi was inconsistent at times throughout the last term but he more than deserves his permanent move. Jota, on the other hand, is a more questionable transfer.

However, two men who could go some way to solving the issues that largely still remain on the flanks are Harry Wilson and Said Benrahma.

The former was the subject of a report from The Mirror last week suggesting that Liverpool would command £21m for his services amid interest from the Midlands club.

Elsewhere, Villa have had a bid rejected for Brentford’s Said Benrahma according to Sky Sports. The fee initially reported was €10m (£8.9m).

But what would the pair offer if one of them did make the move to Villa Park this summer?

The instant go-to statistic when comparing the two wide players is the number of goals they scored in the Championship last season.

In 43 matches, Wilson notched 16 goals, finding the net with a combination of set pieces and strikes from open play.

In comparison, Benrahma scored just ten goals, but he played in five fewer matches. He also made nine appearances from the substitutes bench. But what’s interesting is that despite the number of goals scored, the Bees wide man averaged more shots per game.

Last season, Andre Green and Albert Adomah scored just five goals between. The difference in quality two of Villa’s transfer targets could offer, therefore, is massive.

The pair are capable of playing on either flank, something that could be pivotal in helping to solve Villa’s problematic wide area.

Yet, it’s in terms of classic wing play that arguably makes the Algerian a better option.

The 23-year-old is sensational with the ball at his feet, regularly getting himself out of tight spaces with his quick movement.

For Brentford last term he showed how good he can be in one-on-one situations and it’s that aspect of his game that could be game changing. In his first year in England he completed 2.4 dribbles per game, whereas Wilson only managed 0.5.

If you compare that to members of the Villa team, the only two players who come close are John McGinn and Jack Grealish who racked up 1.9 and 1.8 respectively. Benrahma, then, would address a clear gap in the current Villa squad – the absence of a player who can really run at opposition defenders.

In a Premier League season where scoring goals to keep them in the division will be important, Wilson perhaps offers a favourable solution in that regard.

However, the more all rounded aspect of Benrahma’s play when positioned on the flanks would be far more beneficial for what the Villans are missing, particularly if you assess the 14 assists he claimed.

If Smith can reunite with a man he only brought to English football last summer, it would be a masterstroke.

Wrong one! Spurs fans want Isco to replace Eriksen, not Ceballos

[ad_pod ]

Loads of Tottenham fans have been reacting to the latest update on the future of Christian Eriksen, as Real Madrid will reportedly offer a player-plus-cash deal for the Danish international.

According to The Sun, Real Madrid will offer Tottenham £45m plus midfielder Dani Ceballos for Eriksen this summer.

The Spurs star is expected to depart north London after admitting he wants a new challenge, and despite reports this week that Zinedine Zidane had turned his attentions to Paul Pogba, The Sun claim Eriksen is still on the Frenchman’s shopping list.

Should Spurs sell Kieran Trippier? Check out the for and against in the video below…

Ceballos meanwhile is very highly-rated at just 22 years old, but has struggled to make a lasting impact in the first team at the Bernabeu.

He made 23 La Liga appearances last season, ten of those coming as a substitute, scoring three times, per Whoscored.

Spurs fans are turning their nose up at the youngster though, instead looking to Isco, who has also been linked with an exit after a tumultuous season.

You can find some of the best Twitter reactions down below, where it seems Madrid have offered the wrong midfielder…
